Finally heard from my doctor yesterday.
Jul. 12th, 2008 12:48 pmThe timing was good. I'd left work after two hours because a coworker's cologne was more than my compromised respiratory system could handle and I was stuck there in the small room we all share. My allergist's nurse called right after I went to lie down to say he wanted me to come by to pick up samples of a different inhaled steroid to replace the Advair Diskus I've been using for years.
After a short nap in a clean-air bedroom, I was ready to go. Brandon wanted to practice his driving so he took me to the Palo Alto clinic. I gave him a few tips on driving on the way. The narrow streets of Palo Alto stressed him out. The lanes are narrow and the traffic thick. After I got my samples and straightened out my insurance change for the second time, I suggested we take a different route back on wider roads that happened to go past Eric's office.
We popped in to see if he had time to give Brandon a quick tour. As it turned out, he was finishing the last of the urgent stuff and was thinking of leaving early since he'd worked at home more than enough to cover his hours. So we watched an HP promo video in the lobby while we waited. It was just ending when Eric came to get us. It was fun to watch him show Brandon the stuff he could show him. They got into discussions about equipment and electronics. I started to fade and relaxed in a chair in Eric's cube, glad I wasn't driving home.
On the way out, we toured the offices of Hewlett and Packard. Packard had the most interesting office, with lots of knick-knacks and sculptures. There was a small amount of cash on his desk. It was obviously replaced at some point because Brandon noticed the dollar bill was from 2003. Packard died long before then. We had to move slowly because my lungs were in such bad shape and my left calf muscle was still in a knot from the charley-horse of two nights before.
I navigated the way home. Eric shot off past us yet wasn't home when we got there. He pulled in a few minutes later with snacks and a lo-carb Monster from 7-11.
This afternoon after two doses of the new med, the knot in my calf is completely gone and my lungs are in slightly better shape. Yay!
