The last two days I started losing the battle of controlling my asthma. I've had to use my rescue inhaler just to get through the days. The result of this was that yesterday about dawn, my left calf suddenly went into full spasm when I stretched and I writhed on the bed trying not to scream, bump into Eric or squish Squeakers who was stretched out snuggled up along my other side.

She got up and tried to comfort me, the sweetie! I had to consciously breathe through the pain and do visualizations of the muscle relaxing to get the spasm to ease off. Squeakers left when I started getting control over it.

It has been over a year since I had a leg charleyhorse like that, ever since a chiropractic student who was treating me told me about magnesium. Now I take it every day. I went over my supplements in my mind: Potassium - check; Calcium - check; B vitamins - check; Vitamin C - check.

I googled "asthma muscle cramps" since that's the one thing different about now. Two of my regular meds are known to cause large muscle cramps. I've been taking maximum doses of all my meds for the last month without a problem. Could it be the accumulation or maybe the addition of albuterol on top of them? I placed a call to my allergist. One of the meds I take is linked to a higher rate of asthma deaths. Is it because the diaphram may go into spasm? OK, I have to admit to being really worried about my health. I have to be to manage my asthma and allergies. I try not to panic about stuff but when I'm having trouble breathing and am in pain, it's hard not to. The nurse was at lunch when I called but called me back when I was at lunch to get a list of the meds I'm taking. I told her I was losing the battle of control and was getting worried about that, too. She promised to get me answers. Nobody ever called back.

One of the things I read online was that benedryl tends to prevent the muscle cramps so I took some at bedtime last night. The muscle is still feeling a bit knotted but no actual cramps happened. The benedryl also kicked butt on my lungs. I'm feeling better. OK. New plan is to take benedryl at bedtime until California stops burning. I know it's safe to take Benedryl with my other meds because I asked my allergist about that last visit.

I read walking will help ease them. Brandon is looking to buy a home instead of paying rent so after work yesterday we went to look at a townhouse in his price range that is nearby. Um.. not that one. Brand new but tiny and no pool or laundry facilities. We also did some shopping for stuff. The walking did not help. Didn't hurt it any more but it didn't help.
