They called us a few weeks ago when Eric was at work. The deal was to upgrade to digital cable and it's free for a year with free upgrade and then the regular price is one dollar more than we're paying for analog basic cable.

We've been waiting for just such a deal. I told the person to please call us back because I don't make these decisions without Eric. We discussed it and decided to go for it. He grumbled that the reason it's so close in price is that they've jacked up the analog price to $50 per month. We might as well get a better plan.

Weeks pass. No call. We're busy so we don't call. They finally called Monday morning. Waiting has sweetened the deal. Now they're throwing in a year of HBO for free. Same pricing on the rest. If we cancel HBO after the free year, no additional charges will apply. If we keep it, it's an additional $17.95 per month. For an additional $9 per month, we get a second decoder so we can still record a show that conflicts with another we want to watch. I agreed to that.

About the time Eric gets home, our equipment will arrive. Yay!

OH, and my email is now working. Somehow my email login address lost an L. I don't even remember being in that field. Weird.
It's past the drop date. This class wasn't ready to go. The only lab equipment I can use is tied up in remote login sessions. For the last two days I haven't been able to get into any of the ones with the right stuff for my labs. It wasn't even ready to go until half-way through the quarter.

I posted that information in the forums as instructed on the web page telling us how to connect. Nobody has responded. I still can't get in. They don't give any instructions how to run the windows applications we have to install on our computers through the tunnels to their equipment. You have to find the lab instructor online or email him and ask him.

Last night I emailed my instructor explaining my difficulties and begging him for permission to free some of the equipment from the pods to physically come in and do my labs. He has not responded. This isn't like him. Nobody is responding. GRRRRR!

I might request an incomplete and retake the class when the online modules and assessments are finished. Those and the labs are how I learn this stuff. I've got too many big floaters in my eyes to be able to read printed material very well. The text isn't available in electronic format. This is ridiculous.
There's a startup looking for a fun systems administrator. They asked that I submit my resume along with a haiku. I took that as a challenge and wrote my entire cover letter in haiku:

Hello,

Job searching tires one
Hope of perfect job fuels me
Is this the right one?

Learning Linux now.
Linux is not difficult.
SQL in the future.

Experience is
Less than you have asked for
Lower pay for me

Learning tech is fun
Learning quickly is my thing
I'd be good for you.

I send Best Regards
And hope you will consider
this, my resume.

Linda Montgomery

oh crap. I added an extra "the" in the one about SQL (sequel). Oh well. Hopefully they'll like my creativity.

There's a game company looking for someone a bit more experienced and educated than I am, but I added the bonus for them that in addition to learning fast and planning to get that education they can also use my voice in their games. ;)
