I called Helen yesterday and the minute I told her I had confirmed airline reservations, she was as sweet as sweet could be. She protested us renting a car until I reminded her that we don't hear about Dad's medical changes until way after the fact so we don't know what's going on with him. On top of that we're concerned about his driving and eyesight problems that had come up in the last year. He did have cataract surgery after he lost his license but we're also concerned about his increasing frailness. She confided he's falling a lot. I asked if he ever got the pacemaker and she said, "No." She's hoping we can help convince him to get it when we're there.

I told her I hoped she wouldn't judge us on what happened last winter. That wasn't normal behavior for us and if it had been up to me, we would have dipped into emergency savings to make the trip. But, I told her, Eric is a lot like his dad when it comes to money and she knows how Harold is about money. She just laughed. Yeah, she knows. She spoke about the stubbornness in Harold. I told her his son is much like him in that, too. So now we've bonded a bit over the cheapness and stubbornness of the Montgomery men. :)

She told me she'd heard a lot of good things about us. I replied we'd heard a lot of good things about her. We're looking forward to meeting each other in person.

I warned her that we were unable to fit in our side trip to Carlsbad and we might want to take off for a couple of days by ourselves. There. It's all set. Yay!
I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] alessandrastarr

Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

1. My first pet was a dog. Well, technically I was his human. He was two when I was born.

2. I loved to read until my eyes got too many floaters.

3. I can get a tune out of most musical instruments though my formal training in everything other than singing has been spotty at best.

4. I overcame my fear of snakes in high school by holding the biology class gopher snake after school.

5. I really was born and raised in San Jose. Never lived outside of northern California.

6. The one time I went clamming at Pismo beach as a kid, I put the clamming fork through my left foot.

7. My toes are abnormally short and go down in length from my big toe.

8. I like fresh coconut but dried coconut feels like I'm eating sticks and has a harsh taste I hate.

I tag anyone who wants to do this.
