I'm going to have a new MIL
Jun. 11th, 2006 10:59 pmEric's dad called at 8AM this morning. It was 10AM where he was and he gave me a bad time about still being asleep at that hour. We've had this conversation before. He never remembers I go to school at night until 10PM. He's in bed by 8PM his time.
Well that may change a bit. He called this morning to announce his engagement with the lady next door. We've known for a while he's been courting her. He proposed a few weeks ago and told us she'd turned him down. I guess she thought about it for a while and changed her mind. He told Eric he would have been announcing his marriage this morning except that the state has a waiting period before it issues a marriage license.
Eric told me and I whooped loud enough for his dad to hear on the phone, then I tried to stay awake to listen to Eric's side of the conversation but was failing so I went back to bed and slept another five hours. I needed that.
We're delighted for him. We know Eric's brother and sister will be, too. We've all talked about how happy we all are that he's found a sweet lady to love.
Eric said his dad even took her to a country-western concert and paid $40 per ticket. His dad would never have done that in the old days. He pinched pennies until they screamed. It must be love!
The only downside is that she wants to make the trip out to see us. NOOOOO! There's no rest for the weary, I guess. We'll have to start cleaning the house now to make it even close to presentable. I wonder how much those big waste bins cost to rent?
