Things I've been thinking about...
Sep. 28th, 2005 09:13 amSneezing. Ever since
chaquir posted about sneezing with "Haaaatsjoe" it has made me wonder how people everywhere represent the sound of sneezing. I've always written it as I do it, Aaa Aaa AAAACHOOO! In the funny papers I've seen it printed that way and KERCHOO.
I woke up this morning thinking I should have responded Gesundheit to her post. I grew up saying either "Bless you!" or "Gesundheit!" just because it's more fun to say and as a little kid, I liked long words. My friend Karen found out in high school that the reason we say "Bless you!" is supposedly witchcraft from the dark ages when people thought your soul was trying to fly out of your mouth. The blessing was supposed to prevent that. She was a strict Southern Baptist at the time, and so she refused to say it after that. She doesn't remember that. She also doesn't remember finding out Elton John was gay and being disgusted. She's not the same person today that she was then, thank goodness!
