This week, the new sides that I've been eating with my El Pollo Loco chicken caused the same trouble the old sides had, only worse. I finally put the pieces of the puzzle together. Ever since I started taking Prilosec OTC on the orders of my ENT doctor, I've had gastric difficulties and horrible, vile gas. Beans cause worse problems. Working in close quarters in the tech room gets painful and I have to make frequent trips to the restroom. Oddly, I don't hear many other women farting in there. It makes me hesitant to let 'er rip so if I don't get a moment to myself in there, I have to find a reason to go outside or into the warehouse. I'm tired of being in constant pain. A few minutes after releasing the pressure, it starts building again. Taking gas relief meds doesn't seem to help at all.

Yesterday I read up on Prilosec and was surprised to see that my symptoms could all be from taking it. I'm stopping as of today. I wonder if I'll be able to eat beans again without severe consequences? I love beans. Guess I'd better make an appointment with my doctor to see what my other alternatives are for dealing with gastric reflux disease.

The heartburn I was experiencing was caused by coffee. As long as I avoid coffee, I should be OK... I hope.

Oh Powers That Be! Please don't let this gas condition be due to age! I'm likely to live another 30 years. By then I'll kill people with it.

There can be a number of things that you eat or do (e.g. move around quickly after a meal) that may be making the flux worsen. Sometimes it's just nothing.

I know my morning oatmeal is part of the problem, but I need it for the cholesterol and blood sugar control.

My sister used to be the fart queen of the family. I think I might have taken over that title!

Life worth beans

I'm a bean lover too. I hope your love of beans prevails over the meds and aging!
Glad the coffee thing got figured out.
Be well.

"By then I'll kill people with it" ROFL!!!! (although it's not a funny problem, your description was hilarious!)

I've had problems with gas and constipation for years. This is not a good thing to share, probably (and most definitely TMI) but I used to unleash my methane-ridden clouds on TX out of revenge. I tell you, I could clear a room in no time! My kids call me "the fart queen." Yeah, there was more than one side to the divorce =)

I'm interested to hear what you find out about the gastric reflux.

Next week I'll call and make an appointment. Too many deadlines today to have a moment to myself.

I have the same gas issues because of my IBS, and I asked my gasteroenterologist about gas medications. She said the ones with simethicone help in the sense that they cause the gas to aggregate together so it's easier to pass--essentially just making bigger farts or burps :P And unfortunately, there's nothing to take that will make gas just go away, other than trying to avoid things that you know will cause it.

I'm supposed to be taking Prilosec, but I'm bad at remembering to take it constantly, so I'm not sure if it gives me the same problems. I rarely get heartburn, but I have pressure around my diaphragm and trouble swallowing, which they said could be reflux.

I had heartburn constantly when I started taking it. It cured the problem immediately but now the pain in my gut is just as bad.
