I just bought a computer!!!

WHEEEE! I haven't been able to bring myself to tear my computer apart for Eric to solder the USB port back onto the motherboard. Without my USB graphics tablet, I can't create our holiday card.

The CD drive has become so damaged from my Sims CD that is out of balance that it doesn't burn anymore. That would cost $350 to purchase a replacement as long as I installed it. That's half the price of the laptop when it was new! No way

SO... in celebration of having a paycheck (I'll be permanent at CE on Dec 2nd) and needing a new laptop, I've ordered my dream machine. Eric is going halves with me for Christmas. :))))))))

It will arrive on Friday. WHEEEEEEEE!

Yeah! I'm hopefully getting the scanner of my dreams for Christmas. I got tired of getting really expensive electronic gadgets I wasn't interested in, but hub thought was good. This year, I pointed him at the 11x17 scanner and said, I WANT THIS! I DROOL OVER THIS EVERY DAY! (Most of my art is under 11x17, so once I 'archive' it, I'll be a very, very happy camper.)

Yay! I hope scanning will work well. If there's any texture to your paper at all, it will appear in the scan. Hopefully the newer technologies will work better than what I tried over 10 years ago.

Scanning technology has come a huge way since 10 years ago. The little under $100 HP I have scans my art really well. It can get the texture of the paper, depending on the settings. The main problem is it's too small! The hub works in the pre-press and conceded that the little scanner/printer/copier does a good job for the price.

Now, the Epson 10000XL is specifically for graphic arts and the kinds of paper artists use. BUT, the price tag makes even me choke. Colleen Doran got one, and it scans BEAUTIFULLY.

A 17" HP laptop fitted with "entertainment" options. That means it has a separate graphics card so my Sims2 will run properly. It has Vista. That's the only downside but I read on their website that if I have a CD with XP from another system, they'll let me downgrade to it.

See I was told that you can't downgrade because of driver conflictions.

J is staying at our house to receive it except when he has to go to class. Eric decided to stay home to play with J and will be here except for a late afternoon dentist appointment. Hopefully someone will be here to accept my new laptop when FedEx show up. *hopes*
