Cable companies suck.

sugarplumkittyThere was a two hour Junkyard Wars special on TLC last night. We had been anticipating it all week. Three teams from different countries, three types of terrains their inventions had to handle and it was good...for about half an hour. Then the stupid cable dropped. There had been a few momentary drops so we were half-way expecting it. Luckily it was on again after midnight. My hubby set up the VCR to record it. Hopefully the cable stayed up for the whole thing.
We've been resisting the extra expense of upgrading to digital cable. We've got an A/B switch and two cables coming in. The standard channels are on the A side. The really great channels are on B. We suspect AT&T is trying to get us so frustrated with the old cable that we'll upgrade. A rarely drops. B drops fairly often. We're actually getting angry enough with them that we're thinking about going to Direct TV instead. It's not like they have any other competition.
Last summer they tried to snow us with an upgrade offer of only a tiny increase over what we're currently paying per month. I asked them directly, "Is this is the regular rate? This isn't a limited time thing, is it? Is there a catch to this?" and they had answered, "Oh no, this is the regular long-term rate. No catches." We got to the scheduler before we found out it was a limited time offer. After three months it would get really expensive. We canceled as soon as we heard the truth. They had the nerve to leave a message on our machine saying we had missed our appointment. I called angrily to tell them what had happened and they gave us a $20.00 credit for our trouble. That almost soothed my ruffled feathers, but not quite.
Grrr. If they had any real competition, maybe we'd get better service at a decent rate.
