There's a big hoax going around. Check it out here.

If you've been taken in by this, I need to get you off my friends list NOW unless you've changed your password since then.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

I have no idea what it is, and I don't want to check it out because you've scared me. : )

Just one of the reasons why I tend to avoid those things (I've never even dabbled with Friendster).

There's also a similar scam going around called "Hi5". Avoid e-mails from (and referrals to) that site.

Thanks! My spam blocker is set to the highest setting. Those don't get through.

no worries. I just registered there as in a few minutes ago and immediately deleted my account there after seeing this comment.
I didn't post any link there to lj.

I don't know of Hi5 is the same bad thing as frienditto.

I don't think Hi5 is targeting LJ users the way Frienditto is. If you haven't signed up at FD then your LJ friends and posts should be okay.

What would LJ be without you? I'd change mine too for the same reason.

It works like an e-mail worm. Your LJ friend didn't actually send you the invite; Hi5's program scans address books, and sent you the invite after finding your address in someone else's Contacts. It then uses the info you provide for spam (and possibly other) purposes.

I've never used it - nor will I (no need to) but from what I've been reading today the hoax is that it keeps your passwords, gets updates, etc.
Eh - I'm not worried about it either way. I keep my own journal archived on my computer - and lets be honest. I never post too many earthshattering entries anyway. ;)

I didn't know about it until just now, so I must be safe. See? Ignorance can be blissful!
