Maybe the easiest way is to try to think of one thing that represented each year.
1. I'm a native Californian. We go back here five generations.
2. I walked and talked late, but made up for it afterwards!
3. My Gramma started training my singing voice when I was about 3.
4. My second toe is shorter than my big toe.
5. I gave myself a trim two weeks before kindergarten started and cut off most of my hair.
6. As soon as I got the hang of phonics in first grade, I abandoned the books for my own age and started reading the novels in my sister's book case, the first being Toby Tyler. That started a life long love of books.
7. At age seven I gave up on doing arithmetic. An undiagnosed disability with numbers hinders me to this day.
8. I joined a children's square dancing club. My parents were already square dancing. It became a family activity.
9. At nine, I played with younger kids because kids my age thought I was weird.
10. I was the first girl in my class to need a bra and "join the women's club"
11. I got stung by a huge jellyfish at Pismo beach on our annual camping vacation there. The lifeguard said it was a Portuguese Man-O-War and if I get stung again it might be fatal. I didn't swim at Pismo after that. My sister was jealous. The lifeguard was dreamy and I was too young to appreciate him rubbing first aid cream over half my body. ;o)
12. My sister and I switched to a teen square dancing club and I had my first boyfriend there. He taught me how to French kiss.
13. I learned how to play my sister's guitar and got one of my own for 8th grade graduation with lessons.
14. Tried clamming at Pismo because I didn't want to swim after the jellyfish sting and put the clamming fork through my foot. It missed all the important stuff, but it meant I was using the broom for a crutch for the rest of the vacation.
15. Went on a road trip to Montana to visit my uncle's family with my other Gramma and a cousin.. Loose gravel caused Gramma to lose control and nearly total her car. We were bruised but unhurt. We were stuck in Grangeville Idaho for two days until my uncle came down to get us. The rest of the trip was lots of fun.
16. I quit square dancing to focus on acting and stage crew in high school. Discovered I love power tools!
17. I won best supporting actress for two roles in plays my senior year. My acceptance speech was a bewildered , "I thought Barb was going to get it!"
18. The chamber choir I was in won a spot in an international choral competition happening in Switzerland, but we were unable to raise the funds to go.
19. My first car was a bright red 1965 Triumph Herald convertible. I had to carry a screwdriver of each type, pliers and a crescent wrench to fix it at a moments notice because it was in terrible shape mechanically. My dad gave me a shop manual and was proud when I started rebuilding parts of it myself.
20. My double God-brother was killed in a booze-related single car accident. His best friend was driving. We were incredibly close. I needed therapy to deal with it.
21. Found out my old guitar teacher was playing in a bluegrass band. Started following the band around on Friday and Saturday nights.
22. Spent my tax refund on a five string banjo. Took lessons for about a year until my teacher went on tour with Gatemouth Brown.
23. Borrowed my grandfather's violin and took fiddle lessons from the fiddler in the bluegrass band.
24. At 24 I moved out on my own with my two cats. Discovered I was poor. Started night school to be a programmer.
25. For my 24th birthday, I went to Mountain Charlie's (my usual hangout) drank 5 Kamikazes (all provided free) and got up to sing after the band finished. They loved me! I even had a fan.
26. In the years between age 24 and 32 I moved ten times.
27. I got to watch my second nephew being born. I'll never forget that experience.
28. I've written five children's books to date.
29. I spent lots of time with my nephews. I taught them how to sing in munchkin voices and we'd skip through the San Francisco Zoo arm in arm singing "Follow the Yellow Brick Road"
30. Lost one summer and all my savings to cocaine.
31. Discovered 12 step programs worked for me.
32. Finally got my AA in Computer Information Systems and my first programming job.
33. Got some blocked childhood sexual abuse memories back. Went into therapy to deal with them.
34. Learned self defense. I now can kill with my bare hands if necessary. Hope never to need it!
35. I found the love I'd been waiting for all my life when I met my hubby at age 35.
36. I've made my own Christmas cards since I was 24 and poor. They get better every year.
37. I got married in a redwood "cathedral" in August during a thunderstorm. It was magical! We stayed dry.
38. My husband and I both have green eyes. Mine have a splotch of brown around the pupil.
39. I'm very creative
40. I'm currently trying to launch a voice-over career.
41. I'm in the process of recording myself singing all the parts of "In the Still of the Night" to add to my voice-over demo.
42. My friend
yeoww let me be there when she had her daughter. I would have been there for her son but I was out of town on business.
43. I hate black licorice.
44. I once inhaled a pomegranate seed and had to go to emergency because it triggered my asthma. It was too deep to get out so they left it explaining that my body would absorb it.
45. I once went to Disneyland as a chaperone with my younger nephew's middle school. The kids liked me because I wasn't a parental type person.
46. I love to go on cave tours. We plan our vacations around caves.
47. I battle depression and take meds for it.
48. Babies and animals take one look at me and know I'm an easy mark.
