I picked up new kitty toys and kitty grass for all the cats and catnip (for the grownup cats) yesterday because our old toys all seem to be missing. I know better than to get toys just for the new kitty! Loki immediately chewed the tail off his fur mouse. *rolls eyes* Yes, this is his tradition. He'll eat the tails off of most of them by the time he's done.

Squeakers batted all the new toys around. She seemed to like the foam golf balls the best. She seemed afraid of the electronic squeaky mouse at first but was romping with it this morning and knew where to bite for the "kill". I think she might just be a mouser. Given her history, her mom cat might have had to feed her fresh food. There was more sniffing under the door and less growling and hissing. Her food was nearly gone and her belly huge. I think we might have to stick to definite meal times with her. She has all the signs of an eating disorder.

I awoke during the night. Cactus hadn't come to bed because she was upset with me going in to spend time with Squeakers when she and I usually snuggle just before bed. Not sure why I woke up, I got up to clear my nose and have a sip of water. That's when I noticed a shadow at the water dish in the back yard. I put my glasses on to see what it was. We had a medium-sized raccoon checking out all the food dishes and messing up the water dish. I went out to chase it off but it was already gone.

Dempsey came out from under the lemon tree. Smart boy! That thing has huge thorns so it's a pretty safe place to hide from a big old raccoon. Loki came yawning out of the garage. Chloe came out of her shelter for love. No sign of Cactus. I decided to go out the gate to check the front yard. Loki hopped through the hole made by a missing board and stopped dead in his tracks. When I opened the gate I found out why. About six feet away in the neighbor's front yard was the raccoon. It was facing us. I think it was ready to take Loki on in a fight. I told Loki to "Leave that thing alone!" He ran away from it. The raccoon decided to leave, too. Loki ran to the cars where Cactus popped out and greeted him with kisses. I talked her into coming to bed. :)

This morning Squeakers trotted out of her room as soon as I opened the door, completely unafraid. She headed into our bedroom where Eric was sleeping and Cactus was on the bed.. watching. I tried to herd her out of there but she's quick! I thought for sure Cacti would fuss at her but she didn't. Squeakers headed back to her room and found Loki in there sniffing all her toys. She's territorial, this kitten! She blocked the door and growled at him. I told her to be nice. Then she stopped and I realized half the growling was coming from Loki. I told him to be nice. He retreated under Eric's desk and waited. She sat down and waited. Every once in a while one of them would growl and I'd hush them with "Be nice." Finally, Loki wanted to leave but she wouldn't budge. I stepped over her and picked him up. He cussed and complained and struggled to get away so I tossed him gently over her into the hall where he cussed a bit more and went outside.

Squeakers decided to check out our bathroom. While she was in there, Scampi went into the kitten room to check things out. She wasn't interested in the toys. She was munching kitten food! I stopped that. When the door is open, the cat food will be closed up. I don't think an elderly cat needs the protein in kitten food! Squeakers came back in and saw Scampi but didn't make a sound. She hopped up into "her" chair and settled down. Scampi waddled out without any growling or hissing. I think Squeakers knows Scampi isn't a threat to her.

She was content to stay in her room after that. She's still there now. The door is open so she can come out to explore if she wants to.
