I'd forgotten how peaceful early mornings are. This morning I awoke five minutes before my 6AM alarm to the aroma of garlic. It's harvest time in Gilroy which is why they held the Garlic festival this weekend. I'll bet they had some competition with the Gran Prix in San Jose.

Harvest time fills the morning air with the scent of garlic. Mmmmm! I'll bet those who don't like it hate harvest time. For me it's a normal part of life. Onion harvest smells good, too. It's amazing to me with all the miles of city between us and the farmland how the scent can still be so strong. According to Yahoo maps, it's 36.7 miles (59 kilometers) from here to the center of Gilroy.

If Eric weren't such a race fan and we weren't so lazy about leaving the house on the weekends this might have been a good year to go to the Garlic Festival. The weather wasn't as hot as recent years. I've always been curious about all the garlic things they sell. Garlic ice cream is a big seller but I've never tried it. Somehow I wonder just how good (or not) it might be.

This morning I came to LJ to post about this and found very sad news. Tom Snyder has died. So has Ingmar Bergman. Tom Snyder used to be on after Johnny Carson. I enjoyed his show when I managed to stay up and watch it. Ingmar Bergman films were part of my growing up.

My hands still hurt. I dread work today.
