Field trip to Linux World today! I'll be at the Moscone Center in San Francisco most of the day. Oh boy! Trade show goodies!
Four of us went to Linux World today. The remaining three will go tomorrow. We had fast Thai food for lunch across the street from Moscone Center. Then we checked in and split into pairs. Mike and Andy went on their quest for usable information. Pearlinda and I went on our quest to collect as many t-shirts and goodies as possible. This was her first tradeshow ever, since she's still a high school student. She was so excited even before we got there, it was cute. I was surprised at her interest in so many of the products, since she's planning to go into space medicine and not high tech. I tried not to talk too long with any one vendor partly not to bore her and partly due to our attempt to cut our time short. Andy has been fighting a very nasty virus for weeks and almost didn't come at all. We didn't want to overtire him. There were a lot of things I wanted to learn more about so I collected about five pounds of literature and demo CDs. Being from NASA, we were out-geeking the Linux geeks! As Mike said, "We send people into space and you?" LOL Riiight. Like we have anything to do with that part of it. tee hee!

We had to sit through a couple of demonstrations to get goodies. Mostly people would swipe our ID cards to get our contact information and they'll be sending and emailing us with all kinds of stuff. The funny part is since I wasn't even there yet when Mike signed me up, he'll be getting most of those emails. I changed the ones I could.

One huge thrill only a geek would appreciate: I got to hold a 10GB ethernet card! Oooh it was all platinum and shiny! Oooh it was heavy compared to regular ethernet cards! The booth lady said it was her first time to hold it and she was thrilled too! LOL

We scouted out a booth that had a noon time contest to give away multicolored propeller caps. We were disappointed that we missed the contest, but we told Joe where to find it tomorrow. If anyone needs a propeller hat, it's Joe. We didn't get everything there was to collect because some people only want to give it to people who will listen to their whole spiel. The nerve! LOL

Pearlinda said it was even more than she imagined and it was the best day ever. Friday is her last day. I'm sure going to miss her!

Edit: I forgot to mention I got a small Novell zippered bag containing golf tees and a tee cleaner.

Who wants it? The first email with an address gets it. sugarplumkitty @ yahoo.com
