For once, I didn't have to drag Eric to a family function. That was amazing in itself, but even more impressive because it started at 4:30pm and the local news station was rebroadcasting the San Jose Grand Prix race starting at 4:00pm. Eric loves two types of races, Grand Prix and Indy car. He was napping when I needed to get in the shower, so I started the recorder early to make sure he'd get the beginning.

Family members were surprised he wasn't at the race since it was only about three miles from our house, but as he explained, road courses are best watched on TV. It gets a bit boring to see the cars whiz by in different orders when you have no idea what happened to cause it. He says the roundy-rounder races are boring on TV but are great to watch in person. I still owe him a few races at Altamont Raceway for dragging him to other occasions...

Eric explained why he wasn't resistant on the way home. Sherrie and Bruce took us to see Firesign Theatre for his birthday, so how could he not be willing to go to Bruce's big 55 birthday BBQ?

It was a nice BBQ. Several of their best friends were there. We know most of them. Both sons were there, Mike and Katie having just arrived home from Nicaragua on Friday night. It was so good to see Katie! I hadn't seen her since last summer! Chris just started a job at a company that makes medicine patches. It's a co-op job that lasts six months, then if they like him they'll keep him longer. Mike got back to the news that the CDF (California Department of Forestry) wants him to start back at his old seasonal job on Tuesday. He was hoping for a week off, but that's not going to happen. My sister was thrilled and telling people how wonderful it was to have everybody working! I was included in that. :) Katie frowned. She's not working at a job, but she does have to write her thesis. That's her job for now.

Ooh the pictures they showed us from Nicaragua after everyone left! Monkeys and birds and snakes and all kinds of bugs and such! He was ever so scientific when he told us what things were. "That's a big red bug," he'd say, "and here's a sexy bug with black stockings!" It was a green bug with rear hopping legs that were black above the first joint. LOL They had to hack the paths open with machetes for the classes to pass through and took pictures of each other wielding the machetes. Did you know geckos make a geck-geck-geck sound? I didn't. Mike played crocodile hunter with a non-poisonous tree snake and got some scary pictures of it. The one picture he showed us of it when it wasn't threatening to bite showed just how beautiful and green it was.

Katie showed off the ring Mike designed for her. It's beautiful! I looks like a 1 carat square cut diamond with a couple of smaller diamonds on either side. Katie loves it, as well she should. She got to wear it yesterday for the first time. It was too big before and after they had is sized when they returned from England, she was off to Nicaragua where diamond rings are best left at home.

What a wondeful evening. Mom was there and in good spirits. She feels confident that everything will go well for her surgery. My sister won't be available to take her, so I'm it. She still doesn't have a date for it. I promised Mom I'd meditate before I picked her up so I wouldn't drive her nuts with my bouncy energy. She smiled and thanked me! lol
