I've got a call in to CAL-OSHA, the people who protect workers from harmful environments. The person in charge of Tobacco Prevention is on vacation until next Monday. The lady who gave me that number said that I absolutely have a right to clean air and that they are the people to help me. She laughed when I asked if I should call the police and told me, "No."

One of my customers (the most annoying one, naturally) lost power to their main computer this afternoon. The last time that happened they ended up with corrupted files and a mess that took me two weeks to clean up. So this time, she got me on the phone right away. She promised to keep her people off the system until we got everything checked out, but forgot to tell the guy who lets everyone on the system. Luckily, I noticed right away, kicked them back off and have only spent four-and-a-half hours cleaning it all up. Keep your fingers crossed for me ok? Hopefully there isn't something else lurking in the shadows.

Since I'm being forced to stay in this polluted office so late, the housekeeping guy came in. He's a good spy for me. He says the guy in the office directly below me is continuing to smoke. I'll call the building manager tomorrow morning and report that. Gosh, I might let it slip that I've called CAL-OSHA and that they'll be calling me back on Monday. I'll either be able to say it's still a problem or it's resolved.

Anyone mistaking me for a compliant victim had better watch out. I'll try polite requests first, but if those are thrown back in my face I will pull out the big guns to defend myself without hesitation.
