New morning routine without Eric

I awake when I'm ready. Cactus is pressed into my right side where I can rest my hand on her, just like old Boo taught her. She's there when I go to sleep and she's there when I wake up. In between she's out romping with Loki, but that's cool. I sleep on the right side of the bed, so I have to sleep in far enough to accommodate a curled up cat.
Since Eric isn't here to feed the kitties before I wake up, Loki is curled up on his side of the bed, sleeping the deep sleep of a secure kitty. Cactus gets some pets from me, then gets up, climbs over my body and wakes Loki with a lick on the forehead. He stretches and is presented with her forehead. He begins washing her head and depending upon how sleepy he is, he washes most of it at least once. She's blissed out. As soon as he wakes up enough, he bites her on the neck and it turns into wrestling.
By this time, Scampi has heard sounds and comes clicking down the hall into the bedroom. She sleeps under the coffee table in her "kitty cave" on a couple of folded fleece lap blankets over an insulated cat mat. I feel sorry for her. She is too arthritic to get up on the bed but the bedroom is Cacti's territory so I guess it wouldn't matter anyway. She clicks because she cusses and fights when I try to cut her claws and I'm afraid I'll hurt her back if I push it. I get to one at a time if I'm lucky so she usually clicks on the hardwood floors.
The wrestling always ends with Cactus leaping off the bed and Loki looking pleased with himself. I take my meds and vitamins before I get up. This is my routine. I have ADHD, so if I don't have my ritual I often forget to take my meds.
Bathroom time for me. One of the cats comes in for pets. It's not always the same one. When J isn't here, we don't close the door so the kitties won't sit outside and fuss.
I feed the three in the house. Loki and Scampi spar a bit. It's all in fun. Sometimes there's a forehead lick first but if Loki is all riled up he's too feisty to lick anyone. He'll mess with Scampi and run off. She smacks his behind as he goes and looks pleased with herself. She's funny that way. She likes to smack the behinds of the other cats as they pass by her. lol
I put the food down. Scampi eats the top off all the plates if she can get to them first. Loki sometimes eats and sometimes doesn't. Cactus doesn't seem to like canned food anymore. She's quite plump so I'm not worried about her.
I take the fourth plate and the bag of crunchies out to the back yard to feed kitty girl. She's getting tamer though she still gets upset if I try to pet her whole body. She has nipped me twice so I'm getting better at reading her and knowing when to back off. This morning she rubbed up against my legs for the first time. I wish I could get to her to a vet. She's getting a lot healthier but she's still unstable in certain positions. The rescue people won't even reply to my email about vets who give rescue cats a special rate. We're thinking it will be the pound for her. I hate to do that because it's kitten season and I know what her fate will be but at least she'd be out of pain. We can't leave her in the back yard when we're gone. She'll go without food every other day.
By the time I get back in, Scampi has finished breakfast and wants her morning whipped cream. She's so cute when she sits by her dish and looks at me, then the fridge, then back at me. If she's achy, she might have gone back to her bed. All I have to do is say, "Whippy cream!" and she'll come limping out to the kitchen to sit by her dish until I create a lovely blob of it for her.
I fix my breakfast of coffee and old-fashioned oatmeal with low fat unsweetened soy milk, open the front door so Scampi can go out and eat grass then sit down at the computer to eat and read. Just before I need to get up to get ready to go, Loki is climbing onto my chest and shoving his face into mine for kisses. He checks my breakfast bowl and eats any oats I've missed. I guess he isn't allergic to oats, thank goodness! He falls asleep in my arms, knowing I understand the rules about not disturbing a sleeping cat. I just love it when his face and paws twitch! When Eric is home, he does the exact same thing to him with the same timing. Beastlet!
Yeah, Loki is becoming quite the control freak and his intelligence is starting to show. We thought he was pretty dumb that first week when he tried to pop open our screen door with his face. I guess he was just a huge dumb kitten. He learned from that and hasn't run face-first into anything since. He's now plotting for attention all the time.
When I'm getting ready to go, Loki follows me yowing. He dashes out the front door as I'm leaving to flop on the driveway behind my car. I have to give him scritches. This is our goodbye ritual. Then I tell him mommy has to go hunting for kitty food and shoo him to the lawn. Sometimes he goes back behind the car and I have to gun the engine to scare him. Brat.
