It was a lovely day.  We ended up bringing home quite a bit of the raw veggies and spinach dip appetizers I prepared.  The ones I made by
trying to duplicate my nephew Mike's appetizers from Thanksgiving were gone.

I prepared mine in the morning and by the time I served them at 2pm, the basil had completely wilted.  The basil I chose had some black spots on some of the leaves so I had to improvise to use all the tomatoes.  I tore some leaves in half if only one side was affected.  By the end, I was making cute bouquets of little leaves to place between the cheese and tomato.  It all worked and they were yummy. Not one was left at the end of our celebration.

My mom's friend Shirley joined us.  I know she's been going through a rough time lately, so I was glad she came.  Both my sister and I gave her a small gift without knowing the other was going to do that.  My sister had asked me what kind of snacks Brandon and Jonathan liked.  I had no idea Santa was going to deliver Christmas stockings to my sister's house for them.  :)

We had a warm family day of laughter and love.  My sister bought half a cow in my name at heifer.org.  She bought the other half a cow for mom at the same place.  Whee!  That was exciting!  Some family now has a way to support themselves just from us! :D

Scooter the cat had plenty of love and lap time with all the cat lovers in the crowd.  Chris had the pet rabbit he and his girlfriend adopted with him.  They named her Jean and she was upstairs in Chris's old room in an enclosure.  She's completely litter box trained but since she's new to this house, he's trying to keep her penned up.  She was hiding under a wicker structure and Chris warned Brandon and me that she was very shy of new people.  He lifted her structure off of her and her eyes were wide with fear.  I let her sniff my fingers and she let me pet her.  I used to have pet rabbits a few decades ago and I understand them.  I know how they like to be petted and she warmed up to me pretty fast.  In nearly no time at all after both Brandon and I met and petted her, she was closing her eyes and enjoying the attention.  We took her a little carrot, a sugar snap pea and a broccoli floret.  She knew what carrots were and munched that right down.  She wasn't interested in the pea pod but after she got comfortable with us, she decided she liked broccoli a lot.  She was so cute!

Shirley left soon after sunset.   I brought the gift Eric got me, the Wii he wanted to give me for my birthday and we played that for a while after dinner.  Then Mom left.  Sherrie got out the game she got for Christmas, Apples to Apples, and everyone except Eric played that.  That's a fun game!  I came in last.  Luck of the draw, I guess. teehee!

Where I slip on my no sugar rule
The one thing that bothered me was the candy I bought to bring wasn't there.  I found it when we got home, all bagged and ready to go on the couch.  There was an open package of Godiva candy cane crunch with white chocolate inside and milk chocolate outside.  I couldn't resist my curiosity and ate two.  Not impressed.  There were two left and I managed to make myself close the package and put it down.  If I'm going to slip, dang it, I wanted something GOOD.  So my eye fell on the Lindt peppermint truffles.  One, I told myself, was my limit so I took one from the package, closed the package and sat down out of reach of it.  After eating that one, I regretted not letting it completely dissolve in my mouth because aside fhe flavor I'd been craving, the texture of them melting in my mouth is what I most missed.  One more and let it dissolve.  I did the same thing of removing just one truffle and sitting down away from it.  Ah yes!  That was it.  And I was able to stop myself from having another.

I'm proud of myself for stopping at that point.  I don't feel ill today, so maybe the problem in the past has been letting myself be out of control and gorging on it.  Sure, I'll be white-knuckling my craving for more for a week or two, but I've satisfied the feeling of being deprived of the Christmas goodies.  I'll give out the rest to people to get it out of the house.
/end of slipping

Now to rest and get back to folding and cutting holiday cards.

Hope your holidays have been as warm and loving as my Christmas Day was!

Oh!  I almost forgot to mention, Eric found a bundle of Jeeves and Wooster's first two seasons on DVD for me!  I'm watching them now.  :D
