Gotta wake up. I put in some long nights trying to finish our card in time for Eric to take some to work yesterday and failed. So I'm exhausted without finishing my goal. :( I'll post while I wait for my caffiene and allergy meds to kick in.

Tiredness causes problems. I spill things, knock things over and forget things. All of which adds to the stuff I have to get done to get to urgent tasks. It also makes my allergies worse so at work I'm more sensitive to the Christmas trees in the office and at home I'm more sensitive to the already harsh allergy to the smoke from our neighbor's fireplace. I sure wish they'd outlaw fires. We have no-burn days due to our bad air quality. I'll bet it wouldn't get so bad if people didn't have fires in their fireplaces. *wheeze* My eyes are all swollen and gunky from it. I can't see too well right now. How can I do art when I can't see? I've turned my air filter up. It wants a new filter.

Company party with Brandon and Jonathan
My company holiday party was yesterday. Brandon and Jonathan volunteered to provide child care in the morning. They and two teenaged girls were caring for one 7 year old boy for the first couple of hours. I finally went around the office to people I knew were bringing kids to get them to take their kids in so the caretakers would have something to do. We got up to four kids and then it was closer to party time and we got a nanny with three little ones plus several non-employee parents with toddlers. One of Rose's twins wanted me to hold her. She snuggled right in. Ahh! That made my day. She was in a snuggly mood and demanded Brandon pick her up. Then she switched to Jonathan and went back to Brandon. It was sweet! I think she was the first toddler Brandon ever held. I got photos!

This year, they didn't cater all the food. We were asked to bring an appetizer, salad or dessert. They provided chicken and turkey with all the traditional side dishes. People made their specialties and it was wonderful! The guys and I ended up in line ahead of the CEO's family. I got to meet his kids. Sweet kids! Their little girl reminds me a bit of Jonathan at that age. Not the feminine part, just the way she interacts with everyone around her.

After the lunch and Santa handing presents to the little kids, we were treated to an Elf Yourself! video of the three top bosses in the company. It was hilarious! Then about half the employees went home. Several who stayed to work still had kids and even though it wasn't asked of the child care people to stay for the afternoon, B & J did. One of the parents is getting a thank-you for them. My coworkers were all impressed with what nice young men B & J are. :)

They went off to shop with April and I went home to collect Eric and go to celebrate my mom's birthday.

My mom's birthday celebration
She still hasn't given us her wish list for her birthday and Christmas so we all went from prior lists and got her things to lounge around the house in. We ate at a little coffee shop very close to her home. She had no makeup on. That's an indication that she's not doing well emotionally. Even a few months ago, she wouldn't leave the house without lipstick. Usually we decorate her Christmas tree. This year, the decorations weren't even out. her little fiber optic enhanced tree is up and sparkling. Maybe that's enough for her this year.

We had a nice dinner together and there was cake and ice cream at Mom's house for dessert. I don't remember us singing to her. Oops. I think that was me. My sister ordered me to cut the cake because she usually does it. I said something about her being mean to make me cut it since I don't eat sugar. My nephew Mike said, "She's not the boss of you. She's the boss of me and Chris." I gave him a fake frightened look and said in an ominous tone, "You don't know, do you?" That brought a laugh. Then I added, "If I don't do what she says, she'll tickle me until I can't breathe and make fun of me when I say ''top it! 'top it" because I can't say the 's' sound when I'm laughing.". My sister made tickling motions to me and I cowered. Then I got up to serve cake. I forgot to do candles and sing. Darn it. Come to think of it, I didn't see candles. If there had been any, I would have done it. Mike and I served cake and ice cream. Because we were out of his mother's sight, he jumped in to cut the cake when I was filling a cup with hot water for the ice cream scoop. He whispered, 'Don't tell my mom!" I whispered back, "OK" and when she asked if I was cutting the cake we both called out, "Yes!" lol

Where I find out how cheap my tires really are
When we all headed for home, I went to do a U turn in front of my friend Karen's mother's house (two doors down from my mom's) and misjudged where the the driveway was by a few inches. Pow! Suddenly my car handled weirdly. I babyed it parallel in front of her house leaving enough room to change a tire. I really got taken by the tire company with these cheap tires. It had split along the sidewall. Man, if 18 month old tires with light use will do this, they are crap tires. I haven't been happy with them anyway and have been trying to come up with an excuse to replace them even though they have lots of tread left. My trunk is full of stuff, trash, a box of textbooks for Windows Server 2000, tools a little basket of car fluids, etc. So I started emptying it into the back seat of my car so we could get to my spare tire and jack. When the box of books were gone, We pushed all the other junk to the back of the trunk to get the tire and tools out. As Eric changed the tire, I sorted the trash into a trash bag I had back there and keeper things into a cloth grocery bag. By the time I was finished, so was Eric. He tossed it all into the trunk. I'll be spending time at the tire place today. I'm not going to the same place near our home like last time. Those idiots broke one of my hubcaps last time and sold me medium grade tires that seem more like cheap ones. I'm returning to the place I've used in the past where the tires stuck to the road and lasted a few years. They have never damaged my hubcaps. I'm getting good tires this time. Last time I didn't know if I would have a job after my temp assignment ended. That's why I settled for less than the best. I can't afford cheap tires. grr.

Maybe I should take my laptop to work on the card while they do it. Yeah. That's what I'll do. It's nearly done. I was nearly finished with my face when my program froze Thursday (actually Friday morning at 2am) and I lost my entire head. That was it. I went to bed and apologized to Eric in the morning. He'll give out New Year's cards when he returns to work. Tonight will be printing, folding and cutting. Tomorrow will be printing envelopes designed by Stamps.com then stuffing the cards. Monday they'll hit the mail. I think we'll skip the letter this year. Not that much has changed and the only adventure we had was going to the Chilluly glass exhibit Labor Day weekend.

I'm starting to see more clearly.  It's probably time to get going on today's adventures.
