popping in with an update
Dec. 15th, 2008 07:43 amCranking for finals evolved into cranking out the card. Background is done. Loki and Squeakers are done. Cactus and Eric are mostly done. Still have to draw Scampi and myself and start printing cards. The race is on to whether Eric will have holiday cards to place on people's desks at work by Friday, his last day.
Thank you HP for shutting down a week early this year. It raises the pressure to get it done fast which means I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet. Eric gets a mandatory two weeks off. Since I can't get him to take vacation, I was going to take the same two weeks off but with the layoffs last week, I offered up one week. To be honest, I was on the fence about using up the extra vacation days when we can't go anywhere, so it's OK. If things are dead next week, I'll take the days anyway.
Mom thinks her cancer has come back. She's having a flurry of tests to find out where, if it has. She told my sister she's done with surgery and was thinking about moving to an assisted living community. She has seemed more confused lately, needing help reading instructions on how to rinse her sinuses. I went over to help her with that. Her mail has built up on the kitchen table to the point of mountains. My sister and BIL sorted that out for her last week.
She had our aunt June take her to the doctor when she started the latest flurry of tests, so we don't know what the doctor said. Aunt June has left for Minnesota for Christmas so we can't ask her easily. Ooh! I have her cell phone number. I think I'll call her.
Scampi is fading. She's barfing more. Sunday started off with me stepping in barf wearing my still-warm-from-bed socks. It was on some laundry Loki knocked out of the laundry pile. I washed out four pieces of clothing. I spotted one more spot of barf in the kitchen. Furball. Good. Whoever it was got it out. Fixed my breakfast and immediately stepped in liquid reddish barf in a dark area between the kitchen and living room. That was my other sock. Rinsed that out, cleaned it up and scrubbed my hands again to eat breakfast. That's when I spotted a huge puddle of it by Scampi's bed. Thankfully I didn't step in that one! YUCK!
Eric got up and I was angry about all the barf before breakfast. I told him I was starting the day over right then. The rest of the day went better. I worked on the card until I was a zombie, taking short breaks for meals. I think I was working on it for 12 hours. Then I let Scampi have lap.
Scampi thinks me working on my laptop instead of holding her is abuse.
Well, gotta get ready for work! I'm so thankful I still have a job. It's easy to get tearful when I see empty cubes and offices where my friends used to be.
