My turn to be supportive
Jul. 28th, 2008 07:56 amBrandon and Jonathan's uncle is in the hospital. He had a major stroke due to a growth in his heart that broke loose and went to his brain. They expect there will be another stroke from the same source. Brandon got an email from their aunt Shirley who in her simple way just said, "Paul had a stroke. He's in the hospital." Brandon called psycho aunt to get the whole story. He's upset, of course. He started trying to reach J who didn't answer his phone. Finally, he sent an email. J called back and B went into the front yard for privacy for quite a long time.
They both want to talk to Uncle Paul. Psycho aunt is controlling access by telling B she'll have Paul call B. J is on the fence. He admires his brother for talking to their aunt at all and was wondering if he should call her. I advised against it. She's probably so stressed that a call from someone she has a major personality conflict with would make things worse.
I think both boys, I mean, young men, should call the Hospital to talk to their uncle and not let control freak auntie get in the way.
It would be really nice if J and his uncle could clear the air before Uncle dies. I counseled him that if he did call, to just stick to good wishes and the current situation. Uncle Paul isn't in any shape to deal with the past right now unless HE wants to.
The house in Modesto never sold. They're still stuck with two mortgages. Psycho aunt has her daughter back in her life due to a bad marriage. They're planning to sell the house up in the boondocks of Washington and move back to Modesto. No mention of their plans for Uncle Paul. Sounds pretty bad.
Brandon isn't sure what to do. These people threw both of them away as soon as they could manage. I think Uncle Paul really did mean well and if it hadn't been for his wife, would have stood by both of the guys. His treatment of J the last two years has been bad, though.
Brandon has his own stuff going on, trying to find a place of his own and needing to move before school starts in a few weeks.
I'm a bit torn, myself. I liked Paul until things went bad for the guys and he didn't protect them. I'm really angry with him for how he has treated J. The social security money paid to them for J while J was not living with them has never been paid back.
I don't think the guys owe them a thing.
They need to do what is in their hearts. There is love between them and their uncle. I support them in doing whatever they feel is right.
