Ours was spent quietly. Eric watched an auto race and took a nap. We ordered A La Gilroy garlic pizza for dinner and watched fireworks on TV. Despite the threats from law enforcement about a crackdown on illegal fireworks because of extreme fire danger, more people than ever shot off their own everywhere. The cats were terrified and kept running in and out of the house.

Somehow I managed to injure my right elbow. I smacked it hard against a metal shelf or something during the party preparations and told Eric "Thats going to hurt for a while," but it didn't really start bugging me until about Tuesday when I suddenly had trouble opening the heavy doors at work. It got progressively more sore and I lost about half my mobility. Thank goodness Friday was a holiday because I was able to rest it. It was a bit better on Saturday and is mostly normal today. Ironically, I watched an on-demand comedy show with Dana Carvey who talked about how "fun" middle age is when you hurt yourself doing nothing. Oh, I sure identified with that!

Saturday afternoon the phone rang. It was Brandon. He'd come into town to attend his brother's party with all of his friends, including a classmate who asked for Brandon's phone number because she thinks he's hot. Brandon had driven in his newly purchased used Prius and took a hotel room Friday night for himself and his brother so they could have time to get reacquainted with each other. They went to a fireworks show and got caught in really bad traffic with the traffic signals out. Not fun for anyone but for a new driver like Brandon, it was a challenge. He passed.

He didn't ask to stay here but I offered, reminding him our door and couch are always open to him. He said if it wouldn't be intruding, he'd like to stay this week with us while he hunts for an apartment. Intruding?!? Never! I assured him my saying our door was always open to him wasn't just words. We mean them. He asked me to check with Eric and Eric said, "Of course!"

So now there's a Prius parked in front of our house and Brandon is on the couch watching comedy with us. He managed to overflow the toilet again. *sigh*

At some point he has a date to take the girl to a museum at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The way he's lying around today, I'm guessing it's not today. I'm a little nervous about him driving in SF. He's not that comfortable driving at all, yet and SF is advanced driving. Eric won't even drive there. I'm worried about this girl because she's so assertive/aggressive and Brandon is so inexperienced. I asked Eric if he could talk to Brandon about sex but he won't unless Brandon asks. Guess it's up to me to gently assess the situation and open the door for discussion.

The really good thing about Brandon coming again so soon is that our shy cats remember him and are continuing their normal behaviors. Yay!
