He's sleeping on the couch as I type this. We talked about him going to work with me today but I hadn't cleared it with my boss so maybe that's a good thing. I'll clear it with my boss and come get him at lunch time.

He and his Aunt Shirley came via train/bus bridge yesterday. Their bus was late. We went directly to J's house and decided to get pizza since none of us had eaten. J insisted on paying for the pizza. Turns out Brandon had insisted on paying for Shirley's travel. What wonderful young men they've grown into!

We played a funny vending machine game of bouncy ball pinball where you could win up to three bouncy balls, just the right size for kitties, for a quarter. Between us we won three. One for each house with cats.

Because they were about to close when we walked in, we decided to take the pizza home so the guys could go home on time. They offered to stay for us but when I said, "I have to work late sometimes and don't like it. No, we'll let you go home on time," the cashier gave us $4 off for being so nice. lol

We ate pizza and visited until Shirley suddenly said she had to go to bed. Shirley had a stroke in her 40's from a leaky aneurism. She was a brilliant linguist and mathemetician before the stroke, single mom raising her twin boys with a flake of an ex. After the stroke, she was disabled and her boys had to go live with their dad. He had to straighten up and be responsible. HA on him! Shirley had a dear friend who took on caring for her. When the friend moved to Canada, Shirley moved with her. Now she comes down for holidays and special occasions. When the accident happened, she lived at the hospital for the first week. Then I took over being there for the boys everyday. She seemed more like her old self last night than she has in many years. She still struggled for a word now and then but it wasn't anything like she was only a few years ago. Her brain is still healing! Isn't that cool? One thing that has remained constant with Shirley is her sweet personality. Oh, she's sweet and kind.

But when she's tired, that's it. Bedtime. J gave her his bed, all set with fresh linens. He was going to sleep on the floor of his room. He had all the things ready for her she'd need including the foods she likes. Way to go J!

Brandon and I headed to the grocery store because I wasn't all that prepared. We picked up what he'd need. His towel and blanket were still in the dryer. I made up the couch for him. He opened his Christmas present, birthday present (from May) and his graduation card with cash. Yeah I probably should have made him wait for the graduation card until the party, but with cash inside I wanted to have him open it away from crowds.

Eric showed him a electronics project he's working on at home because he's so very swamped at work. Brandon's interest tells me he's caught up in the coolness of electronics and probably won't be interested in designing construction circuitry. Darn. There goes the job I could get him. Still, I'll take him to work later today and introduce him to the engineers so maybe they can hook him! BWAHAHAHA! Seriously, electronics is awesomely cool but it's an increasingly unstable work environment. It's so easily out-sourced to other countries that I hate to see him go into it. Construction isn't as cool but it's very stable and can't be outsourced. We'll see how things go. The Mom in me wants him to have a good, stable job with a positive company. The kid in me says, "Aw, that's boring!"

We'll see. What is meant to be, will be. I just feel good that I can offer opportunities even if he decides not to take them.

I made sure to introduce Brandon to Matthew next door. If Matthew sees Brandon hanging around our house, I don't want him calling the cops!

Today is J's graduation. Because J has a follow up appointment with his foot surgeon just before he has to be there, we'll swing by to pick Shirley up. She didn't want to go to the doctor with him even after I told her how nice he is both to talk to and look at. teehee!
