Loki update - amazing recovery!
Feb. 24th, 2008 06:42 pmThe blood work showed nothing out of the ordinary. While I was at lab, Eric and the vet had a long conversation about how mysterious the whole thing was. The only thing they could figure is he missed his step on the fence when jumping down from the roof and hit the concrete patio with his side. If Loki was still in that much pain on Monday, the vet wanted him back for an x-ray. *grump* It's a pain to do that on a workday. Why didn't he get an x-ray on Friday? Maybe he was trying to save us money?
I locked the outside cat door to keep him in and enemy cats out when dusk fell yesterday. He'd spent the day sleeping on the floor of the hall, getting up once and a while only to sleep on the floor again. In the afternoon, he stretched out to let Eric pet his belly. An hour or so later, he did the same for me and got very playful with a catnip mouse, kicking and biting it. Then he rolled onto his sore side with only a little groan and continued beating up the catnip mouse. YAY!
At 10PM we realized we hadn't seen him for a few hours. I checked the garage and he'd managed to punch the plastic kitty door out of the frame to make his escape! Oh no! The door had flown a good two feet from the frame. He must have really head-butted it hard. The neighbors with the little girl he loves still had their lights on, so I put my shoes on and knocked on their door. When I identified myself and asked if Loki was there, Matthew opened the door to invite me in to get our escapee. He was stretched out in front of their furnace. I explained what had been going on with him and told them I was concerned that if their daughter played with him, she might accidently hurt him and get bitten. That really isn't likely. He hasn't bitten anyone. He just cries and gets away, but still... They said she doesn't actually play with him that way. He just sits next to her and had at bedtime. THAT was his big need to escape. He missed his little girl! They said she'd missed him very much and Matthew was going to come to ask about him if he hadn't shown up.
I very carefully picked him up to take him home and he immediately lay his head over my shoulder for a hug. Both Matthew and Lil said, "Awww." Loki snuggled with me all the way home. I put the steel door into our inside cat door this time. No way he could break through that one!
Today he's himself again. His right rear leg/hip are still sore to the touch but he's acting like himself. We've let him go where he wants today.
Whew! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!
