Poor Scampi has a cold.
Feb. 12th, 2008 06:51 amI noticed she was limping a bit on Sunday, moving slower than usual and I couldn't find many mats in her fur, none that should have caused her limp. When I got home from work yesterday her nose was discolored and one of her eyes was a bit runny. She's sneezing. Still eating, so I'm not too worried but I'm sad that with all her normal aches and pains that she's hurting more. She got her 1/4 baby aspirin Sunday night and it hasn't made much of a difference. Now this morning, she tried to haul herself up on the couch and didn't have the strength. She ended up caught by one claw, hanging there. I had to help her up, poor baby. She complained so I rubbed her down a bit to relieve the strained muscles.
Chloe, our backyard cat had been sneezing for nearly a week so I cleaned her little house on Saturday. Her blanket was damp and the cardboard under it at the far end was starting to mildew. No wonder she wasn't getting well! She now has a clean, dry house with a new insulating piece of cardboard at the bottom and a new fleece blanket on top. I set up a large cardboard box to surround her house on three sides with a fake sheepskin pet mat over the top to hold the heat in. She had the sheepskin pet mat before but the cardboard walls were new. She almost immediately stopped sneezing. I always wash my hands after petting her. I wonder now if I forgot once and brought the germs in to Scampi. Poor dear.
Chloe is very happy. She has been coming out for food again and wanting head pets. Only head pets, as usual. Any farther and she nips. I've picked up two tall computer boxes to modify for Chloe so she'll have a completely enclosed cardboard outer house for better insulation. Her "house" is wider than one box so I'll have to get creative.
Squeakers is in her teens now. That's clear from her behavior. She actually fought me for my chair on Saturday. We were fixing food in the kitchen and she knows the routine that we sit in our chairs to eat. She planted herself in my chair and when I came to sit down, she wouldn't budge. When I tried to shoo her, she gave me devil ears. When I nudged her she swung at me, rolled over on her back and was ready to fight. I slowly started to sit and she got the message. Oooh the look she gave me!
The next time she tried that I just picked her up and held her, saying I'd share. She didn't want to share and ran away.
The third time, Scampi was in the chair and Squeakers joined her. With the two of them resisting me, I sat on the couch. Beastlets! It ruined Squeakers' game. lol She got down. It's a game with her. She's not holding grudges this time, thank goodness! I'm very grateful she's a gentle kitty. Even with all that fighting I don't have a scratch.
