my new computer is here!
Nov. 27th, 2007 07:32 amBecause they delayed shipping it a day, it didn't come until yesterday. This was a bit of a problem since Eric had already taken two days off work last week and I really can't take any time off for a year. J agreed to hang out at our house except for when he had to attend class. When Eric found out J would be here, he suddenly decided he could take another day off. He sure loves that boy! Of course, I didn't even ask Eric to stay home because he rarely says he can when I ask him. Eric had a dentist appointment so it appeared that someone would be home the whole time. The computer arrived just before Eric left. J still hung around so we could have dinner together. <3
We barely had time to eat before it was time to take him home. I didn't open my computer until I got back. It's going to take some getting used to. It's got a full sized keyboard with keypad which I like except that when Scampi is on my lap I have to twist the wrong direction even farther to type. That's the direction I'm trying to correct from to keep my headaches away. But I like having a keypad. It has a TV tuner and a built-in webcam I'd forgotten it had. Oh my goodness! Wow!
I spent the entire evening doing all the updates and stuff it wanted me to do. I got my Wacom graphics drivers loaded. It took two drivers, one for the USB interface and one for the pen and still the pen forgets where the center of the screen is sometimes. This will make doing our card interesting.
To test things out I downloaded puzzle pirates and did a few puzzles. That was when I realized I needed the second Wacom driver. It's a bit better since then but still forgets where it is sometimes. It's not acting like a mouse. It's just losing the center of the screen and I have to jiggle it over the edge it's refusing to go to so it will shift back. grr. I'll be checking for new drivers frequently.
Still need to load my Paintshop Pro X package that I bought last year and the Office 2007 that I picked up for very cheap at school. I also need to do the microsoft updates HP didn't provide.
I'd emailed EA Games last week asking to swap my Sims 2 Family Fun Pack CD that is out of balance for a new one. It destroyed my CD drive on my old laptop with the vibration. I told them what happened, how much the replacement drive would cost and that I was replacing the laptop instead. I wanted a balanced CD so I wouldn't destroy my new CD drive. They responded that I'd need to send my address and other information along with a check for $13.99 for a new CD. WHAT?? I only paid $9.99 for the package to begin with. I know it legit because I bought it from Fry's Electronics. They got an angry reply from me with a reminder that I wasn't trying to get them to pay me $350 to replace the CD drive their CD destroyed. I asked them what kind of customer service was that? Then I asked what was happening to their company. It used to be a decent company.
So far I think I like my new computer. The shiny screen might be a problem if there's light behind me. I might look for a non-glare film for it.
