Quick update
Apr. 25th, 2007 09:51 amNot a lot happening in my life. Work-school-take mom to the doctor-work-school...
Mom is having a hard time taking care of herself since Fanny left last week. She quit the pain meds a couple of weeks ago trying to get her head clear enough to drive herself places. She's still in considerable pain to the point that she can't sleep. I knew she wasn't doing well when I arrived to transport her and she didn't have any makeup on. Mom leaving the house without makeup? Never!
Yesterday her doctor sat down with her and called her sweetheart and explained that she needed to sleep to heal. This wasn't minor surgery where a week or two of pain meds would suffice. She was probably going to need the meds at night at the very least for several more weeks. He pointed out that not getting enough sleep makes a person crazy. If she needed the med then take it. If she didn't want a whole pill, take half. She's ready to give in and let us continue to drive her until the pain lets up. I was careful not to talk about my cats. She didn't say anything mean.
Speaking of cats:
New kitty girl has been spooked by remodeling happening next door. She came back the night after they ripped his roof off. We didn't see her yesterday after they put a new one on but her dry food was eaten. I hope it was her and not a raccoon or opossum. We've got both in our neighborhood. Suburban wildlife. The raccoons live in the sewers. I'm not sure where the opossums live.
Last night Dempsey came in to sleep for the first time in weeks. He was skin and bone, more interested in sleeping than anything else. No fever but he didn't smell very good like he'd been sleeping on musty old canvas or something. I wonder if he was locked up somewhere for all that time? He actually fell asleep on my lap twitching, meowing and fighting or mating in his sleep. He would have stayed in my lap all night if I'd let him. I was worried he'd wake up and freak out, slashing me. He freaked a little but I was careful not to make him feel trapped by removing the hand that was holding his upper torso and speaking to him in a soft loving voice to remind him who I was. It worked. It was Scampi's med night which means chicken or turkey baby food for all the kitties. Dempsey cleaned his plate with relish. We'd had chicken for dinner which meant I'd set aside some meat for Scampi who didn't eat it all. He ate that too with gratitude.
He was fast asleep in the kitchen kitty bed when I went to bed. Eric says there was no sign of him this morning.
Cactus was angry that I gave Dempsey love. She was so angry that she didn't sleep with me last night. *sigh*
