There hasn't been much rain for us this storm but the winds have been howling. Yesterday afternoon our neighbor's dead birch tree lost a major branch. I think our overgrown roses protected the little fence between the yards by catching the lighter upper part of the branch. They're fine. Yay for that!

This morning I woke to creaks from various places on the house and the patio cover. Our lemon tree was thumping the wall now and then. Cactus was lying on me and she suddenly sat up and looked outside. Loki woke and sat up from between Eric and me to look outside, too.

The "volunteer" tree that grew in a good place for privacy has blown over.

Yes, that's our poor neglected and hated persimmon tree in the foreground. I feel bad for it. It didn't choose to be the wrong kind but we ignored it when the branches got too heavy with fruit and most of them broke. The birds were loving the fruit until the raptor came for them. I'll be cutting it off about a foot from the ground when it's completely dormant to get a new shoot to do a bud graft of fuyu persimmons so we'll take advantage of the strong roots it must have.
