Loki has been good for her. She plays with him, especially the morning after her dose of 1/4 baby aspirin that she gets every third day. She got her dose last night, mixed in with some gerber baby turkey. Dempsey showed up just in time, darn it! I was hoping to wait until he'd left for the night but he's on to the routine, I think. When Dempsey gets baby food Cactus and Loki demand some, too.
It's expensive stuff to be feeding to all four cats! Last night I gave each of the other three a tiny bit hoping they'd feel like they got their share and saved 1/3 of the little jar for Scampi, enough to disguise the taste of orange-flavored baby aspirin. I mix in some glucosamine chondritin, too.
The other three were happy with what they got and left Scampi to her portion.
This morning, I guess Loki went outside to play because Scampi was wanting to play. Cactus wasn't interested. She's grumpy this morning.
Scampi walked quickly through the house, her claws clicking cheerfully on the hardwood floors much faster than her normal amble. She scampered a little. I love that! Our cats do the cartoon cat getaway sometimes on these floors where they start running and don't get any momentum at first. She came hopefully to my chair and shook her head playfully, then noticed a piece of paper on the floor and did her "Scampi dance" as we call it. She stands on the paper, scratches at it with her back paws, crumples it with her front paws, then turns 180 degrees and repeats the process until we tell her how cute she is. Then she shakes her head playfully and does it more frantically until she either gets tired or runs to find a ball to swat around. This morning I got up for a minute and when I came back she was sitting in my chair, breaking the rule of "kitty stays down when the sun is up." That's a rule I need because trying to work on my computer with her in my lap is causing me permanent twisting of my spine and neck. It's a big part of why I have chronic headaches. My new chiropractor is working with me to straighten me out. Guess I'd better do extra exercises to counteract this. She's so happy sleeping on my lap!
She's 15 1/2 with a bad heart and arthritis, the reasons for the aspirin therapy. I just can't make her get down. Lap time is treasured time and someday I'll wish I could have her back.
