Yeah, the earthlink guy was lying

We didn't get the modem on Friday. That means FedEx will deliver it on Monday when I'm back at work. I'd take another day off but Monday is when all my paperwork for the quarter is due at the internship office. Hopefully the blanket signature they have on file will be good enough for them to leave it. Grrr.

I'd rather not go back to work. If I'd felt better last week I would have been actively seeking a job. It's so depressing looking for work. They all seem to want skills I don't have and B.S. degrees.

Plans change so fast!

I wonder if it was the "good luck" email I sent on to those who send them to me? Usually I just send them back to the sender with a "back at you!" but things have been so difficult for so long that I decided, what the heck! and sent it on. Luckily I have six people who send them to me and so sent it on to the other five.

Eric's dad has been determined to drive out to visit us. He told Eric's sister he and his bride were going to set off in two weeks to haul a trailer full of stuff out to us. We couldn't let that happen.

A. He's 82 and people have been concerned for his weaving on the roads around town.
B. He needs a pacemaker and hasn't gotten it.
C. He gets confused in Wichita traffic which is nothing at all like ours out here.
D. He is getting rid of Eric's mom's stuff to make room for his new wife's stuff and needs me to pick out the cut glass dishes I want.
E. Our house is such a disaster there's no way we could make it presentable in time.
and last but not least:
F. We have no place to put a trailer full of junk we don't want.

So Eric called him this evening to convince him we'll come there and haul back what we want. It's stupid for his dad to haul out a trailer full of stuff we'll just throw away. The only time we can really do it is over Winter break. Finals week ends December 15th and school doesn't start again until January 6th.

We looked into flying one way to Kansas and renting a van to drive back. OMG that's expensive!

We looked into taking the train out to Kansas but it was as expensive as flying unless we want to lie down to sleep on the trip, and then it was twice as much. Besides, the van rental for the trip back was horrible.

So we're now planning to drive to Kansas and back leaving December 16th; taking our long-awaited vacation to Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon and Carlsbad Caverns on the way out there. Eric will have to do most of the driving because I can't drive much without screwing up my neck.

I'd rather go in Spring when the desert flowers are in bloom but there's only one week between quarters then. Oh well, at least I'm finally getting that vacation I need so badly!

We will probably spend Christmas in Kansas or on the road someplace. This will be different!

The only scheduling problem I forsee is that I'm supposed to pick Jonathan up from school on Dec 23rd and get him to his grandmother's. He'd planned to stay with us a couple of days in the middle of the holidays. Obviously, we'll be gone. I guess we'll need to come up with an alternate plan.
