Miss Cactus doesn't understand the concept of playing "chase" with a human. She knocked on the door a couple of nights ago around 11PM wanting someone to come out to play and so I went. I made the fast, breathy "kittyKittyKittyKitty" sound I make when I play with her and tried to run from her. She didn't understand. So I "hid" behind the plum tree, peeking slowly until she looked at my face then jerked back so my face was hidden for a few moments, then slowly peeked back around the tree at her. She never charged the tree so I could run.
I tried scrabbling my fingers up and down the trunk just barely in view most of the time and pulling them out of sight part of the time. She got a playful expression on her face but still wouldn't play with me.
I jumped out from behind the tree, acted surprised to see her and ran to hide behind my car. She sat there looking at me. Finally I gave up trying to get her to play chase and found a long birch twig that had fallen from our street tree. She chased that a little then stopped. I started throwing bits of heavier twig across the yard and she did chase those. There weren't too many of those and I lost track of the ones I'd thrown. She sat.
Lee-Roy and I played chase all the time. I miss that. She played chase with him. I wish she'd understand that this human knows the rules and how to play.
We need a boy cat for her to play with. Yup. That's what we need.
