My car is happy now. It has a brand new Sears battery. The more I thought about my schedule for the week the more I convinced myself I needed to get the battery yesterday. I was a bit late trying to get out the door anyway. This would give me a great excuse for being late. I called and fibbed a bit, pretending what happened on Sunday actually happened on Monday. It started OK and I drove it to Sears. They told me it was the original equipment sold with the car back in 1996. Wow! What a great battery to last 10 years! It was also leaking around one of the posts. I thought that was corrosion but it wasn't. It was battery acid. I guess my memory of the battery under warranty was with my prior car.
The service guy even heated my leftover pizza lunch for me to eat while I waited. What a great guy!
So now my car has a Sears Die-Hard Gold battery. It's the kind that doesn't need maintenance. That's a requirement for me. I'm a bit afraid of opening batteries to add water just in case some acid gets on me or my clothes without me noticing so I have a mental block about remembering to check it. Besides that, Eric is convinced you can only put distilled water in them even though I've been told by battery installers that regular water is fine these days. It's just easier not to have to re-argue that with Eric on a regular basis. Showing him the instructions in writing doesn't stick with him, the idea is so entrenched in his mind.
