It's time to dial down the volume just a notch on any obsessive, anxious or worrisome thoughts running around in your skull. Have you tried just watching them pass rather than feeding into them?

I'm taking a break from them today. At 1PM I'm picking up my puzzle pirates friends for lunch and a little sight-seeing. One of our last conversations was about Memiors of a Geisha and how much they loved the movie. I told them I'd bring a list of options for a few hours of touristing. With so short a time, we really can't go far. San Jose doesn't have as much to see and do as San Francisco or along the coast, but we don't want to spend a huge chunk of time on the road. I woke up this morning with a great idea, Hakone Gardens! Yeah! It's the only formal Japanese garden in the western hemisphere that survived WWII because it was owned by very wealthy caucasians. They eventually sold it to the city of Saratoga where it remains a lesser known tourist destination. Saratoga discourages "riff-raff" from their town, so they don't advertise attractions that might draw us in. I've never been there even though I rode my bike past it one day in my teens and have driven past it dozens of times. It just doesn't spring to mind when we want to go do something. To me, it's an inobtrusive sign on the winding highway on the way out of town. You can't see the gardens from the road.

The best part? They filmed Memoirs of a Geisha there. :)))

It's also on the way up to the park where Eric and I got married. During the conversation about Memoirs of a Geisha, we discussed how we find peace and I told him about redwood cathedrals. He has never seen one. If there's time and interest on their part, I'll take them up to feel the history I feel in the middle of one.

Eric is staying home. Coming home from getting his breakfast at Jack in the Box this morning, he came in with tears running down his face. It's such a warm sunny day, Lee-Roy would normally greet us and roll around in the driveway wanting rough scritches. Yeah, the moments we'd normally interact with him are the absolute hardest. It's easier for Eric just to stay home and not be reminded that a big black cat isn't greeting him when he gets home.

I'll give him their cell phone numbers so he'll have a link to who I'm with, though after speaking to them on the phone I have a very safe feeling about them.

In other news, Miss Cactus and Scamperdoo conspired this morning and Cactus woke us up at the time Lee-Roy normally would on weekends. She wasn't as pushy about it as he always was but when I finally did open my eyes and sit up, Scampi was standing on the floor at the foot of the bed looking at me expectantly. It was clearly a plot by the two of them. I'm sure Scampi would have taken part if she could get up on the bed. Her arthritis has prevented her from being on the bed for years.
