Off to Disneyland!
May. 19th, 2005 09:28 amSheesh, what a week!
The car warranty people decided the damage found in my transmission was so bad after Toyota tore it down that they were going to replace the whole thing with a used one they found in Oregon. They're paying for five days of my rental car, so that leaves me paying for the last two. My car won't be ready until Friday or Monday, and I'm dropping the rental car off in a few minutes. My sweet nephew Mike is giving three of us "Boomer Babes" a ride to the airport. He's picking me up in 30 minutes at the dealership.
I washed a load of laundry and put my new shirts in with it so they wouldn't be itchy and something spread brown goo all over the clothes. After class last night I hand-scrubbed it off of all of them and put them through again. It came out, thank God!
Then I went to look for an email with the plans on my laptop. I had an email saying a family member had sent me a postcard! I clicked on the link and executed the download... too frantic to notice it said .gif.exe on the end. My virus checker said it had a virus and couldn't delete it. Alt-Ctrl-Del was disabled so I couldn't get into task panel to look for it. Luckily, I remembered the help in Windows allows you to open all the different things, so I opened it through that. I scanned my system for viruses. One adware threat was found. I checked the link in the email and using my new knowledge of how the internet works, I traced it. The real site is here in the US. The phony link is in Romania.. I think. Their webserver has the suffix .ro instead of .com or something like that. I saved that in a document. Just in case I wouldn't be able to boot my system again, I burned a CD of all my unsaved artwork and that diocument with the IP address of the offending computer. While it worked I went off to check things off my list for the trip. When I came back, my system was off. Crap. In my haste and frantic pre-trip state, I'd managed to get the power cord munched by my recliner chair works. Eric is fixing it today.
He was in bed by then and I know out laptops use the same power supply. so I borrowed his to check my computer. It seems to be fine.
I got confirmations from the two outstanding group members about having lunch at Blue Bayou tomorrow. I'll see if I can make reservations for a waterside table today! Whee! I'm getting so excited!
Well, that's it for now! Gotta scoot! I've got 20 minutes to get my stuff to the rental car and turn it in.
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-EEEEEEEEEEE!
