I'm going on about five hours sleep because I stayed up to watch the Pope's funeral. Mostly it was because I liked him so much, but I have to admit I was also wondering if any terrorists would try something with all the world leaders gathered in one spot. That thought was gone very quickly as I watched the coverage. The service was very touching. The music was wonderful, soothing and uplifting. The only burr under my saddle was how the camera people kept getting into people's faces who obviously didn't want the distraction.
The universal love for this man has such amazing power. I didn't realize the middle-eastern leaders were there, too until I saw news reports this morning. Wow. I don't know if I buy the whole sainthood thing because I don't think people have the power to decide things for the spiritual level of existence, but if anyone deserves it, Giovanni Paulo does. That was so cool when the crowds chanted his name with each peal of the bells.
This morning I had to be at De Anza at 10:30 AM to prove my computer literacy to the head of the department running the education program I'm now in. I couldn't believe he couldn't determine my literacy from the fact that I emailed my request to him and attached my resume showing years of tech support. I half expected to have to say "This is a mouse and moves that arrow on the screen which is called a 'cursor'." It turned out we just chatted for a few minutes and he said he'd sign off on the requirement. The thing is, I'd have to fill in a form, have him sign it, then he'd have the Dean of the school sign it, then it would go to a committee who would consider whether to accept it or not. The only reason I'd need it is if I were trying to get a certificate or degree from the school. Since I'm not, I decided not to bother. The prerequisites aren't enforced. They're more of a disclaimer in case people try to give the school trouble because they were unable to pass a class. The certificates I'm going for are issued by a company who simply tests people.
After that, I went to the De Anza admissions & records office to get the refund of my duplicate school fees. The head cashier said the information I had was incorrect. Since I paid the De Anza fees first, I needed to get the refund from Foothill. Naturally, the skies were pouring during all my driving to and from the colleges. I parked in the lot nearest the sign that said "Administration" which was at the bottom of a steep three-story tall hill. Silly me, I didn't use my inhaler before attacking the hill. I've managed to handle the resulting coughing and wheezing, but now I know I need to use my inhaler on the way to the campus. They're going to refund the fees to my credit card. The bookstore was pretty empty, it being Friday when few classes are held, so I was able to get my book for the networking class. There weren't any used books, darn it. I had to buy a new one. This school is going to get me into such great shape just walking to and from class. :o)
I got some shopping done and got home for lunch. Just as I settled in with Inside The Actor's Studio on TV, the phone rang. It was a lady from Lindamood-Bell in Saratoga. I'd applied for their receptionist position a couple of weeks ago and they were calling to arrange group testing for the appplicants. I've made the first cut! Yay! This is the first actual callback I've gotten in all these months. Next Tuesday I go in for a two-hour assessment test of reading comprehension and office skills.
Saw my shrink right after lunch. He's upping my dose of Adderall because I've had so much trouble focusing on things I have to do that don't really interest me. We'll see how that goes. I found the bottle of Adderall I lost in January. If the higher dose is too much, I'll take those instead.
Thunderstorms are coming our way! Whoooo! The wind is whipping outside. Tornados have been reported in the Sacramento area from this storm that's moving south toward us. I think I'd better log off and shut down just be safe!
Love you all!
