Yesterday I had a followup appointment with the career counselor at my JC. She took my resume and made it into a tech resume and an accounting resume. While I was there, she got a call from a potential employer looking for a 12-week fill-in marketing person to cover a maternity leave. It's not a bad fit for me, so she said she'd send them my resume with a couple of others. The best thing? It's about 3 miles from my house!

Since we had a rain-free day, I pulled the rest of the weeds from my iris bed. The soil gets so hard here that I need to pull weeds while it's soaked. Got a bunch of shopping done, ran some errands... the day was gone with no Java lab work done. :(

There was an email from the casting director at VoiceTrax. An educational software company is casting a huge project and they need 15-20 characters. They're hoping to get people who can do a variety of voices and it's high school kids in the game. She sent me scripts for the librarian, a cheerleader, a nerdy hall monitor, a miscellaneous girl in study hall and the balloon delivery person. That's at 1:20 this afternoon. I've printed them out, figured out what I'm going to do and read them enough times to be smooth on the delivery.

This morning, I took Lee-Roy in because he was due for his feline leukemia booster. The vet was thrilled to see him in such good shape. He's only gained 1/2 a pound since he was so sick, but back then you could feel every bone in his back. Now he's sleek and smooth. She had placed a call to the surgeon to see if it was ok for him to get his vaccination. She hadn't heard back and so she asked me to leave him there. I hated to do it. He's terrified of the vet since his surgery. She said she'd make it up to him by feeding him all kinds of treats. From what she said as she left the room, he's getting some tuna among other things. He'll love that! It was his favorite emergency dinner when we ran out of catfood before we found out how dangerous it could be. She'll give me a call after she hears back from his surgeon.

Job search news:
I've been trying to pick up a letter of reference from the middle school teacher I liked working with so much but between our separate committments and my not wanting to disturb the class, we haven't gotten together yet. Hopefully I can scoot back after my audition and get there just as school lets out.

My old friend Brian (the drama teacher) wrote and mailed me a glowing letter! Wow! Must send him a thank-you note at the very least. I've got one letter outstanding. My sister's family friends who became family over the years are going to be the source of the third letter. I'd hoped to ask Lois to write it but her husband Steve answered the phone and while we visited for a minute or two, I told him why I was calling. I didn't feel right rejecting him right off the bat, so I said I was hoping one of them would write me a reference letter. He volunteered to write it. Lois is a speech therapist who works in the schools. Steve is a high school physics teacher. He's the one who wanted to know what he should write about. My sister said I might need to nudge him. I'm wondering if I could secretly ask Lois to write one anyway. LOL

Tomorrow I get an ultrasound. Thursday I see my chiropractor and starting that night I'm catsitting for my sister and Sue. Next week I have my mammogram and the ob/gyn appointment.

Today or tomorrow, I've also got to figure out what classes to take in the next quarter. I've decided to go for the hardware end of things. It's a quick way to get employed if the other things don't pan out. Then if I decide to keep on in the software/web development vein, I'll have steady income to fund it. I think I'd like to continue on with that. I'd like to have a snazzy website that I built myself without being dependent on my site host's tools. Trellix has limitations I'm already getting around by writing my own html. I want to learn to do the really fancy stuff on my own. I'm almost there.

My mom never called yesterday. I wanted to call her, but she likes to cocoon herself when she's hurting. I don't like to break in if she wants to be alone. I tried calling late this morning, but she didn't answer. Her answering machine is on the blink. Maybe I should go over and look at it for her. My dad had recorded the outgoing message. She left it that way. I love to hear his voice when the machine picks up. She calls it herself sometimes just to hear him.

Well, gotta scoot to the audition! Hope to catch up on all of your posts when I get back!
