I've been so caught up in my studies and this freaking headache that I'd almost forgotten about both Eric's birthday = on Sunday - and Valentines day. Since unemployment still hasn't kicked in, I didn't have any of my own money to spend on him. He wasn't expecting much. I got him a card for each. At Office Depot I saw nice sketch diaries for a decent price, so I picked one up for him. He got a collection of art pens for Christmas and has been trying to use them on regular paper. I knew a sketch diary would work better for that. The for Valentine's day I got him a single red rose. I usually get him a dozen. I knew he'd understand that the single rose represents a dozen.

On his birthday, he woke up feeling really depressed. He didn't want to do anything at all. My family typically goes out to dinner on people's birthdays. He couldn't give me a restaurant he wanted to go to and finally told me, with tears in his eyes, that he was in such a funk he didn't want to do anything at all. We're putting it off for a week. We stayed home and ate whatever he wanted for our meals. It didn't occur to me until yesterday that he was born on his mom's birthday, and this is the first year they didn't talk on the phone to wish each other happy birthday. Now I'm thinking that's the reason why he was so depressed. Next week, my sis and BIL will be in England visiting Mike and Katie, so it will just be mom and us for dinner.

Yesterday I got the rose, put it in a vase and put the card on his chair before I went off to Java class. He gets home while I'm in class. My instructor was talking about us doing whatever when we got home and I reminded him it was Valentine's day. He was grateful I had. He'd forgotten and his wife is pregnant. This is one year he'd better not forget! LOL

Eric was in the back of the house when I got home. I called out "Helloooo!" and he replied with a sad sound to his voice. He said he ordered roses to be delivered to his office so he could bring them to me and they never arrived. He was so involved with a project that the time slipped away from him and he realized the roses hadn't arrived after the florist had closed for the day. He apologized for not having them for me. He's not having a good week, poor guy! I told him it was fine. I know he loves me and I don't have to have roses to prove it, especially this year when money is so tight. It's OK if I don't get them this time. He said he'd already paid for them and I'd better get them! :o) I told him it was fine with me if they just credited his card for the missing roses.

We were going to go out to dinner another night since I had class but I noticed that somehow I've been scheduled to engineer sound both Tuesday and Thursday nights! Yikes! Java is Monday and Wednesday. And I've got lab 3 due tomorrow. I'd better get to it.

Oooh, but not before I share about the weather yesterday! We had our first spring showers! It was warm and showery yesterday. I love spring rain! It lifts my spirits. :o)
