You Are 23 Years Old

23

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

The Advanced Java midterm was tough! Unlike teachers I've had before, he tested us on stuff he had lectured about but I hadn't had the time to play with yet. Luckily it was open book, open notes. I was able to find most of the answers in my notes and I copied them down word for word. Unlike last year in Beginning Java when I was on antidepressants, I finished with time to spare. Not one of the first people done the way it was when I was 15 years younger, but still I was in the first half of the class to finish. We'll see if I understood the code we had to read and show results from. Eek! I wasn't sure about one of them at all.

As suggested by several of my dear LJ friends, I checked into CBEST study guides. There are a lot of books out there. When I found an online downloadable test with lots of good reviews, I went for it. Yesterday was spend in my chair with my laptop reading the study guide and taking the sample test.

I thought I was great at the language parts and sucky at the math parts, but I went ahead to read their notes on both. Good grief! I've been ranting about inappropriate use of apostrophes and I've been WRONG. Yikes! There were other things I didn't have right, as well. I didn't know that exclamation points and question marks could go outside quote marks, but they can if the quote is part of a larger question or exclamation. And there's more.

I got 80% on the language sections and 90% on the math! Wow! Have I really overcome my math disability? Maybe I have! Wheeee! And that was with a killer headache I'm going to have fixed this afternoon.

70% overall is passing. Today I'm going over the things I got wrong again to make sure I understand them. I'll pass CBEST, first try. :o)

There were typos here and there in their documentation and one answer in the language part that was incorrect. After I found the second typo, I started logging them. After I finished the test, I wrote them a note and sent them my list. It's entirely possible the actual test has errors like these and that's why they're there, but just in case they're accidental I thought the company would like to know and correct them.

For instance:

If Paul drinks 8 (8oz) bottles of Powerade daily. If Steve drinks 12.5oz of Powerade after a hard workout, what percentage of his average daily intake has he used?

That had two problems. One was a sentence fragment that started it and the other was the fact that we have no idea what Steve's average daily intake is.

Another said we were driving in Italy and saw a sign that said it was 6 kilometers to Rome. It gave the conversion factor to miles and asked how many miles it was to London.

There were a few misspelled words, too.

They say the CBEST test lasts 4 hours. Many people don't finish. I'll be there from 8:30 AM PST until I finish it. Any supportive, calming thoughts people can send me will be appreciated! I'm sure I'll be doing a bit of meditation during the math part to calm my phobia. Seeing how well I did on the practice test will help me calm myself easier! :o)
It's the year of the Rooster! That's my friend [livejournal.com profile] finickynarcane.
