1. Crunchy or Soggy?
Crunchy

2. Manet or Monet? (Bonus points if you can name an artist other than Degas, Renoir, Nagel or Thomas Kincaide)
I love early Monet and all of Michelangelo's career. I can name Titian, Picasso,Van Gogh, La Trec, Da Vinci...

3. Who was your first real, true, feel-it-in-the-base-of-your-spine kiss, and do you know where they are now? Note to stalkers: It would probably keep your stature in this group higher if you didn't post addresses and phone numbers.
The only one who ever made me feel like that is my husband, Eric. He's sitting about three feet from me at the moment.

4. What's your favorite guilty pleasure movie?
Dirty Dancing
I have to admit that I wasn't into Firesign Theatre in their heyday. I was so involved in high school stuff that I didn't have time to listen to our "radical" radio station KSJO very much. If I'd heard them, I would have been a fan back then. Eric introduced me to several of his favorite albums when I first met him. We recite bits from them for fun.

The Campbell Heritage Theatre is a lovely building that was part of Campbell High School when I was a kid. It was the site of my first high school play, and thus my first audition. I didn't attend Campbell HS normally, but my school partnered with them to put on large scale musicals. I spent a summer there in a Drama workshop. I walked in filled with memories and feeling like I was going in the wrong door!

Three large tables made a booth where many t-shirts, bumper stickers, hats, etc. were being sold. We looked at them all and were tempted but didn't buy because I didn't know if I'd have money coming in or not. Eric picked up all the free stuff which included a brochure for their online store. As we walked down the aisle to our seats I was looking for [livejournal.com profile] finickynarcane. I'm really not good at finding people in crowds. Luckily, she saw me and waved wildly with both arms until I focused on her. :o) I should have been easy. She doesn' t have grey hair. Most of the crowd did.

My sister pointed out my friend Brian (the drama teacher from that school I got booted from) seated a couple of rows in front of us. He wouldn't look up at us for the longest time!

THE SHOW - ACT 1
The first act was mostly new stuff with references to old stuff. Eric knows their routines so he was getting a lot more jokes than I did. A lot of their humor is just plain gross. They talked fast and sometimes went on so long that my brain switched off and then wouldn't get the punchline. It was mostly funny. I really like how they integrate the local places and issues into the act. It makes it feel personal. They must work extremely hard to be on tour and to do that everywhere they go. Toward the end of the first act, I fell asleep a couple of times during the long orations. I was really glad for intermission!

INTERMISSION:
I stood up and wanted to walk around, but we were dead center in our row and the people on the ends didn't go anywhere. I don't like pushing past people so I moved around to get my blood moving right there at my seat. Since Eric and I were trapped in the middle of our row [livejournal.com profile] finickynarcane and her bf came as close as they could manage and we chatted over two rows of seats! LOL

Brian finally looked up our direction and I waved both arms wildly and called his name. He grinned then he and his wife came up to talk to us. First thing he asked me was about how we didn't know these guys back when they were new. I said we were a few years too young. My sister protested and said to be nice. Then she said she was too young too. I quickly agreed! LOL Then I mentioned that we'd just missed the whole hippie experience, too. My BIL said, "No you didn't."

I said, " I did, too. I never went to any peace rallies because my parents wouldn' t let me and I was too young to defy them on it. We missed both things by a year or two." Brian agreed. His wife is a bit older than he is, so she was totally into the whole scene back then.

Anyway, the second act was about to happen so they went back to their seats.

ACT TWO
Was much funnier. I loved the beatnik poetry section! It made me a bit sad on part of it. One guy did a political alphabet thing that really hit home for people. You could feel the mood of the crowd get heavy when he mentioned Iraq and our idiot government officials. These are definitely heavy times we're living through. Then they took us back to a happier time when they only pretended to be old! LOL That got a big laugh. There were a few obvious flubs that made us all roar with laughter. That's the best part of a live act is when they mess up and have to cover. These guys are GOOD. There was a Nick Danger skit where the bad guy kidnapped the writers and the dialogue supposedly ended at that point. Naturally, they improved until new writers came in to finish it. (you never saw the writers) The new ones wrote the way badly translated instructions are written. It was hilarious! We gave them a standing ovation, so they sang us a song and the whole audience joined in. What fun!

Afterwards, they signed autographs in the lobby. Eric was kicking himself for not bringing one of his albums along. Since he opted not to get autographs, my sis and BIL took us home. We no sooner got in the door than Eric said he was tempted to get his favorite album and go back to see if they were still there. We only live 10 minutes from the theatre, so I told him to do it! He wasn't sure he knew where his albums were but lucked into them right away in the "dump" room closet. He has three crates of albums back there. The Firesign Theatre albums were the first ones his hand touched. His favorite is "We're All Bozos On This Bus" but oddly, that was the one missing album. Instead he took "The Tale Of The Giant Rat Sumatra" because it was in the best shape and we hopped into the car to zoom back. We had a discussion on the way over about the drawing on the front of the album. I recognized the facial features of the guys, but Eric insisted it wasn't them. I dropped him near the door because I had a feeling he needed to get in there fast, then I parked the car and followed him in. Turned out, my feeling was right. He walked in and they'd already finished signing. The four guys were milling about with the few remaining fans. Eric rushed in and asked the first one he saw if he was too late. The guy said, "No, let me sign that for you." then told Eric he'd better catch Bergman quick because he was on his way out. Eric got all four autographs before I got in there. Only Phil Proctor and Phil Austin were still there. He just was asking Phil Proctor if the drawings were of them when I walked in. The answer was "Yes." Another fan was filming the exchange. I popped in and said, "See? I told you it was them." He panned out to include me in the shot then zoomed tight on each person in the drawing as the Phil pointed at them and said their name. We chatted just a short time more, then thanked him for everything and left.

Eric said all of them were as nice to talk to as Phil was. He was glowing with happiness as we walked to the car. :o)
