Shopping was not the ordeal I thought it would be. Not only did I get a parking place without incident, I got everything I needed. My quest was for a round french bread loaf to be the bowl for spinach dip. There were two left. I waited while a three generation group of shoppers consulted their list and discussed what to buy. The older lady kept telling the little boy "In New York we..., here we...." about everything. I guessed she's visiting for Thanksgiving. They moved to the side after selecting a loaf of french bread and I moved in to grab my round loaf. I was so excited to find one that I gleefully said, "I got the second from last loaf for my spinach dip!" The NY lady suggested I take them both since there was only one left. I smiled and told her I didn't want to be greedy since I only need one and besides, someone else was going to need it.

She looked a little shocked then smiled at me. She said, "We're making spinach dip, too."

I said, "Then you'll need it."

She thought for a moment, then said "I think she's going to serve it in a bowl. We just need bagettes." Her daughter (I assume) tried to talk her into buying it, but she insisted they didn't want to do it that way. I could tell this was a strong willed lady who didn't take suggestions well. I wished them a happy Thanksgiving and went on my way.

What is it about shortages that make people think you need to hoard? The night before when I had the bag boy get me one of the last packages of the spinach, the clerk asked if I wanted two. I told him I only needed one. Am I so different? hmmm... sounds like a poll.

Today I'm grateful that I have a home, food to eat, people to love who love me and a fat sleepy cat on half my lap (Scamperdoo). I'm grateful that Lee-Roy is healing and feeling well enough to be a pain in the ass. I'm grateful that I've been blessed with the ability to see the beauty in nature.

I'm grateful that we're heading up to San Francisco for our Thanksgiving feast. That's our old tradition. My aunt June and uncle Jim host. We eat dinner at around 3pm and that gets finished by around 4:30pm so we can climb to the top of Twin Peaks to see the lights sparkle around the bay at dusk. Then we make our way down to eat dessert. Last year I had the tail end of a cold and only made it halfway up before my athma kicked in. This year my leg is hurting in an odd way, but I think I'll be able to make it to the top! I'm determined!

Most of all, I'm grateful for the people in my life, like all of you!

Thank you for being in my life!
