![]() | If I was a James Bond villain, I would be Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I enjoy fluffy white cats, dropping people in piranha pools, and initiating World War III. I am played by Donald Pleasence in You Only Live Twice. Who would you be? James Bond Villain Personality Test |

When the intro to "Here Comes The Sun" began the sun was shining into my car. I felt a rush of warmth and happiness from the music and the sun together. At first I thought it was a comment on the first sunny day we've had in a while until they started listing George Harrison's accomplishments. The happiness faded. The tears welled up and I could just hear George's voice chiding me on the dangers of crying while driving 80 miles per hour. Because, you know, I think that would be his reaction. So I wiped the one eye that was starting to get blurry from tears and took a deep breath.
I never met him in person, but I feel like I knew him from his music and from his life work.
Flashbacks
I'll never forget sitting next to my older sister on the floor in front of our black & white TV at the age of 8 watching Ed Sullivan present The Beatles. My first Beatles record was the "I Feel Fine" 45. The flip side was "She's A Woman."
My sister had each wall of her bedroom dedicated to a different Beatle. Our parents refused to let her get official Beatles wallpaper, so she made her own. My allowance wasn't enough to buy fan magazines and I wasn't old enough to babysit to earn money so I only got the rejected pictures one of her friends ruined by kissing them with fresh lipstick to hang on my walls. I wished her friend would ruin a few more!
Once when I was playing her albums I left Rubber Soul on the floor without its jacket and our dog ran across it and left scratch marks across one entire side. I thought I was going to be dead very soon. Luckily for me, he only scratched the bare surface of the vinyl. It still played fine. Whew! She was extremely angry with me about that until we found out it was okay.
So young, so misunderstood. I cried when she got to go see them play at The Cow Palace. The stupid phrase I heard too often "You're too young," crushed me. I was so upset that they let me ride along to drop her and her friend off. At least I could be within a city block of them! My parents were convinced I was only copying my sister. They couldn't believe I cared so much for The Beatles so for Christmas when she got a Beatles album, I got "Christmas Carols For Children." I don't know if I threw it on the floor or not but I wanted to. I let them know I was extremely angry about it. They kept telling me I didn't really like The Beatles. They kept telling me I was only imitating my sister. I don't think I ever played that Christmas Carol album.
End flashbacks
The gifts he gave us will live on in the massive influence he had on music and on spirituality for more than one generation. He will be missed.

Among my friends here in the states, there are a variety of nicknames people have for their grandparents. Some of them are cultural, some of them aren't. Since I called both my grandmothers "Gramma" and my one grandfather "Grampa" I grew up thinking everybody called them by those names. Since then I've heard Nana, Nanny, Nan, Mamaw, M'Dear, Grammy, Damma, Pep among others for grandmothers; and Papa, Papaw, Pawpaw, Grampy and others for grandfathers. What do/did you call yours?

Woo HOOO!!! Good news from Kansas!!
Nov. 30th, 2001 06:35 pmMom M. started moving one of her arms yesterday! She also responded to her nephew's question! Yippee!!!
Okay, I need to calm down a little. It doesn't mean she's out of the woods at all, it just means she isn't completely paralyzed and that whatever had her not responding to people is wearing off a little bit. It's a tiny start toward improvement.
But it has been so long since there was GOOD news, I can't help but feel a leap of hope!
