Need a new chiropractor.

I'm firing mine. Wednesday was my scheduled appointment and I canceled. Well, I tried to cancel. I left a message on their answering machine when I thought they'd be there to answer the phone. I told them I was canceling and that after what happened last week, I couldn't bring myself to go back. They could expect a request for my records in the near future.

20 minutes after my canceled appointment, the receptionist left a message on our machine wondering where I was and if I wanted to reschedule. Did they not check their machine or did they refuse to listen to my message?

Yesterday when I got home, there was another message from my now ex-chiropractor saying she was worried about me. Heh, yeah. She's worried about losing my payments. If she were worried about my well-being, she wouldn't have insisted she was done last week after her co-worker violently adjusted my neck and caused horrible muscle spasms in my right neck, shoulder, arm and hand. She and the co-worker refused to try to fix what he did to me. They kept saying "Go home and ice it." Well yes, I have been icing it, taking pain meds, taking muscle relaxants and I'm still jammed up where my neck meets my shoulder.

Since they wouldn't do anything about it and I was having trouble writing a check for my co-pay, I adjusted that part of my neck right there at the reception desk and reduced my pain enough to live with. My chiropractor tried to tell me not to do that. I looked her in the eye and told her I couldn't leave in that much pain. She said she was done. I popped my lower neck and the pain dropped from 6 out of 10 to 4 out of ten. The pain was at level 2 when I entered the office that day. I've been working it all week but haven't been able to pop the rest of it back into place.

This isn't the first time I've left her care in more pain than I started with. She may have been a good chiropractor once, but she's elderly and has lost it. I've been continuing to go to her because she has a method of straightening my posture and I could always hang out after she left (I've been her last patient of the day) to have her co-worker adjust me. Besides that, she can't afford to retire and supports her 90 year old mother so I feel sorry for her.

She moved offices and has all new coworkers. This new guy isn't touching me again. I do not accept violence. My own well-being is at stake here. Feeling sorry for her is one thing, letting people cause me more pain than I'm normally living with is another. When she said she was done last week, I'm sure she didn't know she was done with me permanently.

Anyone know a good chiropractor in the downtown San Jose area? Traveling to Sunnyvale for my care doesn't make a lot of sense. It was great when I was working at NASA but now it's far out of my way.

** EDIT ** I suddenly remembered a young one who wasn't too bad near my home. Checking online, he's listed on their website so I called. He has Saturday hours! No juggling around work hours! No introductory visit with all the crap they put you through! I'm seeing him in about an hour from now. :)

That's OK. I checked online yesterday and found a younger one I used to see near my home is still here. I was sure he'd moved back to Canada. I have an appointment in about an hour.

I managed to pop a second part of my arm pain jam yesterday morning. Now I'm back to just slightly more than my usual hand pain. He'll be great! Just expensive but at least now I have coverage for chiropractic on my health insurance.

I do too. I'm just glad that I'm working with the manager who was in the car accident (which kind of prompted my hiring).. so at least if I start to have a bad go of things, I think she'll understand.

Yikes. I'm always skeptical of chiropractors and whether they're helping problems or making them worse. I like my chiropractor, but it's hard to find one you can trust, for sure. Good luck.

I know I used to have a lot less movement and a lot more pain before I started getting treatments. Age has brought on more old injury problems that they help... most of the time. The older chiropractors tend to have better technique than the younger ones until they get old and frail like my prior one. I checked yesterday and found a younger one I used to see near my home is still here. I was sure he'd moved back to Canada. I have an appointment in about an hour.
