Anti-smog additive in gas is back- bleeech!

Here in California, our population is so thick that exhaust from cars has caused us major problems. In cold weather, it's not a problem, so in the winter time they don't require the anti-smog additive. In warmer weather we get air pressure inversions that trap it all in the valleys and then the smog grows to dangerous levels. As a result, they add chemicals or something to the gas for the warm weather months to reduce ozone. It eats into our mileage and every one they've tried causes a different environmental problem. The last two have bothered me more than plain old gas would. I can't believe nobody else can smell the stench the current gasoline additive causes. It burns my nose and lungs. It's heavy and oily and I taste it constantly. It makes me queasy. How is this better?

I think I'm going to write to someone about it... if I can figure out who.
