The two weeks were so quiet.. now the internship office is too busy
What I didn't know when I started my internship is that our individual coordinators had mandatory time off. They had to get approval to work again. I thought the quiet coming from them was normal. Now they've announced they're back and I'm wondering how I'll get all my stuff done.
Last week there was the poster meeting - we have to make a poster about our job to help them promote the internship program, excluding any confidential stuff, of course. They had posterboard for us at $2.00 each. Rough draft is due this week. We had the "How's it going meeting" last week as well. Our time cards were due.
We have a lunch potluck today. I had to buy stuff to make a communal dish. They are encouraging people to bring food to represent their culture. I decided against bringing white bread. Broccoli salad is my contribution.
Tomorrow, there's a field trip to an Ethiopian restaurant near my home, costing approximately $15. One of the other interns comes from Ethiopia. If we had gotten paid, I would go but we haven't been paid yet. First paycheck comes August 15th. Where do they think we're supposed to get money for all these things? Besides, I've eaten at that restaurant with
finickynarcane in the past. It's OK, but not great. There are two better ones in the area.
I might email a response of, "I'd like to go but can't afford it. Could you please hold off on more of these until after payday?"
But then, my paycheck is already spent so afterward probably won't be much better. Kitties have to get their rabies shots and licensing done. Lee-Roy and Cactus both need their teeth cleaned very badly. Lee-Roy is past due for his six-month post-op xray. I need new underwear and another pair of jeans to wear to work. I need a haircut. Christopher still hasn't gotten his graduation check. The slumber party friends want to go as a group to see "Menopause, The Musical" in San Francisco. Oh, and I desperately want to go see Paul McCartney! I've never seen any Beatle in person. *sigh* I suppose it's not that important, even though he was my favorite.
Oh well. Gotta scoot. I've been LJing too long in the mornings and have been consistently 10 to 20 minutes late. It's no big deal because everyone is late, but if I want to get hired there, I need to break this habit so I appear enthusiastic to be there. I am definitely enthusiastic to be there but being late gives the wrong impression.
Maybe making myself go to bed earlier would be a good idea. I'm slipping a bit in that regard. Last night I was already up too late when I remembered I hadn't put the broccoli salad together! Luckily, I make it vegetarian so I don't have to fry 1/2 lb of bacon. I use Bac-Os instead. They're soy. Chop broccoli, chop onion, dump in Bac-Os and raisins, mix mix mix. Stir mayo, sugar and vinegar, drizzle over salad, mix mix mix. Cover. Put in fridge. Wish I could find the matching lid to the glass casserole that perfectly holds it... Plastic wrap will have to suffice.
Ugh. I'm going on 4.5 hours sleep because once I went to bed, my mind wouldn't shut down for a while.
