This virus is a real stinker. It just hangs on and on. I'm up to three weeks now and still coughing, wheezing and blowing my nose a lot.

We had planned to leave this week for a road trip vacation to Carlsbad Caverns and all the natural wonders between San Jose and there. Eric is a couple of days behind me on this part of the virus, so neither of us feels up to the trip right now. We've decided to hold off until next Spring so we can try to see the desert wildflowers blooming.

In the meantime, I've only been able to start doing what I planned to do weeks ago for the last few days. I've been shopping to get everything I need to get the attention of casting agents and such people. Next week I will be baking toll house cookies and some kind of sugar cookies shaped like the sun. I picked up cute octagon shaped plastic containers from a restaurant supply. They have black bottoms and clear tops. I'm going to print my sun logo on stickers to put on the black parts or maybe I'll just glue the foil sun confetti I picked up at a party supply yesterday. Still deciding on that. Then I'll fill each container with a combination of toll house cookies and sun cookies and top the container off with yellow curling ribbon and my demo CD.

Today I finally gave up finding the sun cookie cutter at a store. It's the wrong season for the sun. Online, I found two different 3 inch ones I liked for pretty cheap at a web store that also had sparkling colored sanding sugar. They had some closeout cooling racks for really cheap so I ordered those too. My order including shipping was less than $20.00! I do have to wait until UPS ground brings them from Ohio to California. Oh well. In the meantime I picked up a copper snowflake cutter I think I can bend into a sun. We'll see. I can color sugar myself with food colors.

Here are the two I ordered:

I also shopped around online today to get the last few items I need to set up my recording "studio." I've got a Manhasset music stand I picked up on ebay, a pop screen for my microphone, a microphone boom to put onto my mike stand so I won't be bumping the pole when I'm acting and a light to brightly light the copy on the music stand. The last three were all from a store online. Again, they're shipping UPS ground but this time it's from Southern California. That should be only a day or two.

This sure seems to be a year for death in my family. One of my cousins died a few days ago. Honestly, I never expected him to last until age 60. He's been morbidly obese for most of his adult life. He'd been fighting congestive heart failure for the last two years and then last week he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. If he'd been in good health otherwise, there's a very good chance he would have undergone chemo and been cured. But instead his heart gave out before they could even start chemo. Bob was a very sweet man. He was a genius with automatic transmissions. He could tell from listening to it what was wrong, and he could fix them all. Not bad for a guy with severe learning disabilities that made him unable to read or do math! I wasn't very close to him because he was so much older than me. I'm fairly close to three of his four kids though. Tomorrow morning my sister and her husband are going to pick up Mom and come to my house and we'll use my car to drive to Sacramento for the funeral. My BIL can drive a standard transmission car, so he'll drive one of the directions.

The really sad part about cousin Bob's death is that he and his wife have been raising two of their grandsons. The one child of Bob's I'm not close to is in and out of jail on drug offenses. Both he and his wife are strung out most of the time, so they lost custody of their children. The kids both have problems. One is developmentally delayed and the other has learning disabilities. sad sad sad. My mom said she'd take care of flowers from all of us. Then she thought about it and decided to send a nice but inexpensive bouquet and give money to help with the boys.

Counting my blessings here.

Oh! I did force myself to go to an audition last week! Raspy voice and all. I was sitting next to a classmate (Jessica) as she scheduled another classmate (Greg) to be trained to be the booth engineer for classes with teachers who don't know how to work the equipment. I mentioned that I'd love to be an engineer and she got all excited. She said they had lost a couple and were desperately trying to replace them. So I submitted my name to the powers that be at Voicetrax and was approved! The next night (Friday) and following day I had a class with Patrick Fraley, my character mentor. I had a tough time staying awake and had a killer headache the whole time but managed to shake it all off in the booth. Gotta be able to do that! Then after class Greg showed up and Jessica taught us how to set up the mikes for people, how to set levels, record and play back. We learned the basics. Once we get that down, we'll get to learn advanced things like phone patch classes and stuff like that. I now have a key and know the secret security code! Woo hoo!

There's an instructor who doesn't mind having extra engineers in for his classes, so in December Greg and I will each engineer two of his four classes with the official engineer watching over our shoulders to help if we get stuck or confused. Then in January we'll both be put on the schedule solo! Yay! This is a step toward becoming a booth director in an agency!

So even when I'm sick things still keep happening in my favor! During all that, one of my customers from RDS called to ask if I'd do some custom work for him *and* record some of his voice mail stuff!!! This is a market for that I hadn't considered.

Feeling better and getting ramped up!

Hmm... I guess I need to edit that part of my post. Going back to do that as soon as I send this to you. I found two I liked online and ordered them with the colorful sugar sprinkles I need to decorate the tops. One is the same one you liked best!
