Snow on the mountains
Feb. 19th, 2006 02:32 pmIt's so pretty! We've had record lows here this week. The high a few days has been in the 40's and the low in the upper 20's and low 30's. Normally we are about 10 to 20 degrees higher than that. A couple of small storms have blustered through leaving a pretty dusting of snow on the mountain ranges on either side of our valley. People have been driving up to give their kids a treat. A lot of local kids have never been in snow.
I was hoping we'd get snow in the valley floor, but we didn't. I even covered my plants to be ready. We're overdue for a snow that sticks for half a day. It snowed when I was six and again when I was 21. Now I'm 50 and we haven't had any since.
The year I was six, it snowed on a Sunday. My parents woke me up saying "It's snowing!" With all my six years of wisdom, I knew they were teasing because it doesn't snow here and replied, "No, it isn't," then rolled over to go back to sleep. They pulled my covers off, pulled me into a standing position and opened the bedroom window. It was snowing!
Cloth gloves don't work well in snow. That's all I had to wear. We didn't have any snow clothes at all. We bundled up as well as we could and walked down the block to the park and playground. It was all covered in white except where the pavement was. At the time, my parents used to take us to Sunday school. This day, we didn't go. My parents wanted us to enjoy the snow as long as it lasted. My sister and I played in it as much as we could until we got too cold and had to warm up inside.
